“Let the paparazzi see us. I want our faces plastered ALL over the world!”
The Smith Legacy - Stella Hercule (Gen 4)
Stella Hercule is the daughter of Alexis Hercule and Julie Roban. Stella grew up with her cousins Justin and Beau Wulf, a free spirit and a tomboy. She felt comfortable around boys, loved science, technology and did well in sports.
Much changed when she entered her teens. Alexis, her dad, became very protective when he saw the interest older boys had in her. Stella, not one to follow rules, rebelled: she saw no problem skipping school to enjoy the day with her cousins and friends. All Stella cared about was painting the walls in San Myshuno and dancing until sunrise at the parties in The Ruins.
Boys were never a problem: they would come and go, Stella didn’t care much for anyone in particular. The parties and the rotation of boys drove Alexis crazy. Julie tried to manage the fights between father and daughter, but even she couldn’t control the direction things were going.
When Stella saw her father would not let her have the same freedom her cousins had, she ran away to live with them in San Myshuno. Beau was starting his own “home grow plant business” and Justin was working as a Mailroom Technician. Stella made money selling her paintings in the Spice Market and singing at the Arts Quarter Plaza.
That idyllic time living as a starving artist changed when Beau bought a house in the posh Pendula View neighborhood of Willow Creek: he needed more space for his plants. Stella, who vowed never to go back to Willow Creek, started to bounce from place to place in San Myshuno. Until she met Rusty Skinner.
Rusty was a man who loved the arts and worked in the Council. He would always buy her paintings or tip her when she was playing in the Plaza. She sometimes saw him promoting his causes in the Plaza and he usually invited her to eat at one of the stands. He was a good-looking man, much older than any of Stella's friends, but he knew a lot about art and life and she enjoyed their talks.
One night, tired of being broke and living in shabby apartments around the city, Stella fell sleep on a bench, only to be awakened by a concerned Rusty. He told her it was dangerous to sleep there and invited her to sleep at his place. Stella accepted.
Rusty had a huge Art Deco penthouse on the top of the Torendi Tower. Stella had never seen so much expensive art in one place. No wonder he knew a lot about art! They had dinner, he introduced her to the staff, took her to the guest room, told her good-night, and that was that. Stella spent the next day swimming in the indoor pool while Judy, the butler, fed her food and drinks.
That night when Rusty came home Stella thanked him and was about to leave when he told her she could stay if she wanted to. He didn’t want to see her sleeping on the streets. Plus the place was big enough and his girlfriend would not mind.
Stella accepted and in the next few weeks they became friends. She told him about her dreams of becoming an artist, but didn’t want to be like her mom that sold her soul instead of her art. She told him about how her dad didn’t understand her. All she wanted was to enjoy life like her cousins: they could stay up until sunrise, date many girls, skip school now and then. The worse thing that happened to them was being reprimanded. She didn’t like feeling trapped. Rusty listened to her without judging. They talked for hours, and she felt she never had talked to someone like that before. They went to parties at the museum, they ate out almost every night, they watched movies and the stars together.
Rusty bought her plenty of art supplies and Stella painted all day in the sunny terrace with the gorgeous view of San Myshuno. She invited her friends for lunch and everybody liked the “cool old guy Rusty”. Things were going great.
And then, Rusty’s girlfriend came back. When Stella saw the tall blonde wrapping her arms around Rusty, she felt a painful punch in her stomach. The man that had been her friend and confidant, the one that had shown her a different kind of attention, of course, he had a life of his own with another woman. At first Stella thought the feeling was jealousy, but why? And then it became clear: she wanted to be the tall blonde woman Rusty had in his arms.
That night Stella cried herself to sleep. The next day Rusty introduced her to his girlfriend Penelope. She had planned a girls' day out and took Stella shopping and to the spa. They talked about traveling, food and arts and Stella could see why Rusty loved her: Penelope was charismatic, joyful and charming. But Stella couldn’t stop hurting about the situation. How silly she was for not understanding her feelings for Rusty.
The next couple of days were unbearable. Rusty treated her the same and Penelope tried to bond, but everything was different. When she felt she couldn’t see the man she loved with another, Penelope announced she was off for a trip. That gave Stella a moment to think about what she should do next.
With Penelope gone, Stella cooked them dinner and gave the butler the night off. Rusty was in great spirits and the night progressed as many had before. But Stella decided she needed to make a move: while on the terrace watching the stars Stella kissed Rusty.
At first he didn’t react, but once the surprise was over, he gently pushed her away. Stella saw in his eyes what she feared: shock and confusion, but no sparkle. She went to her bedroom and again, cried herself to sleep. Next day she packed her things, wrote Rusty a letter explaining her feelings and did what she vowed she would never do: went back to Willow Creek to stay with cousins Beau and Justin.
Rusty called and all his calls and messages went unanswered. Stella felt ashamed. She went back to her old ways: dating, partying and selling her paintings around town. Her mom Julie was helping her out and organized a showing of her work in the gallery. Father Alexis was finally accepting there was no controlling Stella: she was wild and free and that was it. But Stella was not happy. Everything felt meaningless.
Many months later Rusty showed up at her house: they had much to talk about, he told her. Sitting down on the grass, he told her he loved her too, but had pushed his feeling aside because of their age difference. He didn’t want her to be with him out of gratitude because he helped her. She was a young woman with yet much to experience in life, and he was an adult inching closer to retirement. So he kept quiet until that letter. Penelope was out of the picture since he found out that Stella felt the same way. He asked her to move back with him so they could give the relationship a try.
Stella accepted. She moved back to the penthouse and everything felt right. Rusty was the gentle and caring man she knew, but now she was the one wrapping her arms around him.
Soon after he proposed, they had a huge engagement party with the whole family present. The wedding was lovely and life moved on as smooth as it could be.
After a few years, Stella started to feel anxious. She loved Rusty with all her heart, but understood what he meant back in the day about “life experiences”. She couldn’t help noticing other men. She wanted a baby and Rusty had told her that was one thing he could not give her since he was sterile.
Older and wiser Rusty watched his beloved behaving all antsy. He told her he was not opposed to an open relationship: he didn’t desire other women besides her, but he knew that Stella wanted to experiment. With a few rules in place, Stella was grateful that her husband didn’t want to place her in a cage. She had a handful of hookups until that too lost its appeal.
One of these relationships resulted in pregnancy. Rusty and Stella were static and welcomed a baby boy that Rusty loved and raised as his own: Kyle Skinner.
Rusty became a popular National Leader. Stella kept her interest in the arts, helping runaway kids and raised their son. They lived together until Rusty’s passed away. Stella got into politics herself and didn’t re-marry, telling everyone that Rusty was the only man she ever loved.
Meet Maya Smith. Her life wasn’t a fairytale, but ir looked like one. Her mom got pregnant when she was only sixteen, with the man who was supposed to be the love of her life. Months later, Maya was born.
Cheerful, daydreamer, and maybe a little inocent. She really did have the perfect life, she was everyones princess. When she turned eighteen, she went to college willing to journalism. And there, her life took a turn.
Her life changed in so many ways, and she —kind of — stopped being the careful daughter she had always been. When Maya graduated, she managed to get an apartment in the city, and now she is ready to start the independent life she always wanted.
And the rest is history.
“How was your night with Caden?” Colin asked his very sleepy sister
“Who said I was with Caden?” be Alison asked
“Because it looks like you didn’t sleep last night,” Colin said with a sly smile putting the coffee cup in front of his sister
“Well, it won’t happen again for a while. He has a girlfriend now” Alison said staring at the warm coffee mug in her hand.
“Ooo… I’m sorry” Colin told his sister
“Don’t be… that was our agreement Friends with benefits until one of us got into a relationship. It’s not like I didn’t know it would happen someday” Alison said with a shrug
“Just because you knew it would happen doesn’t mean you wanted it to happen,” Colin said laying a hand on his sister’s shoulder “I’ve got a photo shoot to get to… Try and get some sleep OK?” He said giving her a kiss on the top of her head.
