Hi, everyone! One of my best friends from Smith is Abby Bergman ‘18, who’s an amazing marathon swimmer and just graduated this past spring! She majored in Neuroscience and minored in Exercise and Sports studies, swam on the swim team here for four years, and was a swim captain her senior year! I only had a year with her at Smith and on the swim team, but we have a lot in common and got really close this year! Last August, she completed the 21mile English Channel (joining seven other current and former Smith swimmers who have completed this swim!) and has completed other impressive open water swims such as the Catalina Channel crossing in 2016 and Maui-Lanai Channel crossing in Hawaii this past May!
Here I am with Abby at our conference championship meet at MIT this past February:

Abby’s from LA and is home working for this summer before she heads to The University of Chicago for a Master’s program in Psychology this fall. This week, though, she’s headed to New York City for a 28.5mile swim around the island of Manhattan through the Hudson, Harlem and East Rivers. It’s called the Twenty Bridges Swim and will take place this Saturday!
If you’re interested in tracking Abby’s progress this weekend or just want to learn more about her (she’s super cool!), go check out her website and her blog and the tracking link for her race!
Join me in sending Abby good vibes for her swim this weekend! -K
