How many times had she said she was done with Jimmy? Twenty? A thousand? Didn't really matter with him sitting across from her, in her kitchen once again.
At least he's being honest this time, Bullet thought to herself as she gazed at him, a studying sort of look and heavy pause as she awaited some outburst or quick turn Jimmy was kind of known for. When he just sat there in silence, disheveled and deeply tired, she made a move.
Getting up from her own seat, Bullet knelt in front of the man, trying to catch his eyes so they could meet hers, so she knew he was actually listening.
"You don't gotta be brave." She placed a gentle hand on his, feeling his warmth. She half-expected his skin to be cold, like he was dead, because he certainly looked it. "And it's okay to be scared. Here, anyway. With me."
Maybe Jimmy needed this, a safe space, or someone to listen and not expect anything. Maybe he just needed to feel a little human again.
"Just let yourself breathe for a little bit. You don't gotta do anythin' but that, baby."
