Gorgeous Snaffle Bit Style Bracelet, perfect for horse lovers and alike. Soft faux suede cord single wrap style bracelet with a silver tone
My aesthetic.
Germanic snaffle bit (Aachen, Germany, 9th or 10th century AD), made of iron alloy. It is 12.7cm high and 19.1cm wide, and weighs just under 400g.
The snaffle bit is the simplest type of horse bit. It presses up against the horse's “bars” (the part of the jaw without teeth) and corners of the lips.
This bit's mouthpiece is made of two articulated links, both square with thin ridges. On either side of the mouthpiece is a pierced square plaque, and these are used to hang the bit from the bridle. The large rings on each side of the bit are for attaching the reins.
The horse needs a relaxed jaw for the bit to be effective, so the sharp ridges on the mouthpiece prevent the horse from grasping the bit with its jaws. When the reins are pulled, the bit's cheekpieces would compress the corners of the lips. This forced the horse to stop, kept the rings from pulling through the horse's mouth, and helped indicate the direction to the horse when necessary.
