I think he’s done. If I do any more I think I will just screw things up. Naga!Oberyn everybody. Based on Snakes and Ladders by @beskarberry. This was kind of ambitious and I’m not quite sure I did it justice but at the same time I feel like I could tweak this infinitely and not be entirely satisfied. So here is Naga!Oberyn in all his scaly glory.
naga!Oberyn progress. highlights and some shadows. I will probably use gradients to even it out a little before I do the next round of color. Tonight was mostly bringing in yellowy highlights from the candles. Next i will be bringing in the blue and purple tones from the windows, and hopefully starting in with the scales. While part of me wants to draw every single solitary scale I will probably figure out a way to shorthand it or it will take me ten years. This is sort of in that middle place where I don’t know if i like it or not. I’m probably going to clean up the line work and drop it back over the finished piece. Inspired by @beskarberry‘s lovely naga!Oberyn. I just wanna snuggle up in snake!Oberyn’s coils. Is that so wrong??
Naga!Oberyn progress. Used some gradients to bring more gold and purple. I want Oberyn’s scales to be the only red thing in the room, but he also needs to fit into the space. Brought yellow directly from the columns into his tail. ALSO FIXED THE ODD NIPS. It’s hard to find good Shirtless Pedro reference and my grasp of human anatomy is not great. Thanks to @lellowberry for anatomical help. If you ever see me doing something screwy with anatomy please let me know. I don’t mind. (Having flashbacks to six-fingered haunted!din) I tend to lose the bigger picture when I start going into the details. Next step is to zoom in and bring some highlights into the hands and face, and then start pulling light from the windows. Inspired by @beskarberry‘s lovely fics. Ugh. Naga!Oberyn is amazing. Sexy snakeboy can wrap me in those coils any time he wants.
Hey all. I’m still feeling motivated to do fan art so I figured I should just roll with it. This is naga!Oberyn from @beskarberry‘s delicious Snakes And Ladders. I highly recommend bingeing her masterlist. I am a monsterfucker now, and it’s all her fault.
Some notes about the process here. I use photographic elements in my art but I make sure the images are either public domain or licensed for commercial use. Morguefile, Unsplash, and Imageafter are my go-tos for photographic elements. I dropped in the background first because I want to know where the light sources are before I start dropping colors into the linework. He’ll be picking up light from the windows and the candles so I wanted everything to be in place, so i’m not guessing and trying to fix it with gradients later.
Naga!Oberyn progress. working on the highlight layer for the scales. I made a grid pattern that I outlined the scales over in the places where I think the highlights should go. Now I'm going in and highlighting the scales individually while also dropping some more abstract, shimmery light. This looks kind of *blergh* right now but I am the middle of painting the scales. The texture is important to me because I want him to glimmer. IDK. Once the highlights are done I will probably start bringing the warm gold and red into his upper body some. @beskarberry I just wanna run my palms over his scales.
