I think part of this thing with Markiplier is from his friend passing. I'm probably in no place to say anything about it, but yeah... Prior to it, any of his action on Tumblr was him just reblogging stuff from others involving his content or their art of him. It was fairly uncommon for him to respond at all to any of these posts or any at all. Part of it could also be that he's on vacation and doesn't have much to do at his parent's house and this is the result of him being bored.

I agree with you. It’s not up to us “figure out” what’s up if it’s a personal matter, but I had a feeling it’s a combination of stressors. He’s acting out of his normal behavior and we’re all noticing it, he’s more active and less kind, and if this is him being bored, then I’ll say what the last asker said. He needs a better hobby.

Mark being snarky on Tumblr started out hilatious, but after days of this, it feels like he really needs to get a hobby. I'm happy he's home on vacation and relaxing, but this is his leisure activity... it's not a good message to send.

Yeah, that’s another part of it. Someone said he needs to chill/relax and he responded that this IS him relaxed. That’s scary if it’s true.

Popularity changes some people. I don't even watch Mark and I see posts on my blog about him being unusually snippy towards people. Wasn't he a happy positive person when he started out?

Again, I never really watched Mark’s early stuff, but he was definitely a bit more chipper than this. He wasn’t rude to fans, that’s for sure. He may make rude jokes or say things that can be “problematic,” but that’s not exactly what we’re seeing here.

I don’t think it’s “popularity,” but you’re right there. I think he knows just how much responsibility it is to put on a good model for 10 million fans, and he’s tired. Still not a great excuse though. No need to be rude to his fans.

Can I ask what stuff you think was 'too far'? I feel like after the initial round of replies, pretty much everyone was posting in the tag looking to get sassed and happily joked back if he replied to them. The hate that came to them afterwards wasn't Mark's fault, he's said before that if you send hate you're not a part of this community. And it's telling that he's only doing this on tumblr, a site that hasn't exactly treated him well this past year, I think it's fine to see him blow off steam

Y’know. I was really going to answer this one.

I went through his blog and found the posts that irked me, and I even agree that the hate isn’t his fault. I wrote this whole thing about how it’s my opinion and I don’t want people to just hate Mark for nothing if they don’t agree with me. But I’m not going to make a big “Mark is a meanie” post. I think I’m throwing in the towel. And for that at least I can explain why.

This post was what originally signaled a red flag in my head. OP’s post is already not cool, and Mark’s joke response ignores that people are getting upset or offended. but after reading it again, I noticed something.

I didn’t watch Mark “it the beginning.” Because I didn’t always enjoy how he acted. I mean, he was new to YouTube, he wasn’t as knowledgeable or mature yet. But OP is right. He’s being how he once was, perhaps who he really is, and that’s not to say the past years have been an act. Just that- he’s not okay right now to put up a happy face, and if he needs to blow off steam? Blow it in the direction that ISN’T his fans.

Listen. I’ll admit I have a way more personal reason for being upset and worried if Mark is acting this way. That’s on me. But he can’t ignore that this “change,” or even a “changing back,” is affecting a ton of his fans directly. He used to give a shit, and whether it’s stress, residual emotions from Daniel’s passing (rest in peace), maybe even a disdain for tumblr itself- he’s crossing a line he hasn’t before.

not everyone is upset. not everyone is for it. at the very least, we can’t hate on each other. it’s what Mark taught us all not to be.

maybe he gave up on us. so I think I’ll give up for now too. 

I’ll go watch some Jacksepticeye.

We talked about this before but I wanna put my part here. Mark is acting like an asshole lately. Yes he may be sassy sometimes but he's crossing the line. He used to make me smile but now I'm getting disappointed and I'm not happy anymore.

I feel you friend, I suggest everyone who’s hurt by this definitely take a step back and watch some other people for a while. Mark isn’t going anywhere.
