it took so long for people to notice attack on titan's fascist imagery because like... for a good ~60 or so chapters (and the current seasons of the anime) it looks like an anti-imperialist, anti-fascist story where the monarchy is corrupt and lying to the people to control them and then... after that it just... fell apart and his real beliefs showed through.

yeah tbh that’s why i don’t like... blame people for having been into it for a long time???

most of the people who figured it out before that point were ppl who really looked into ishiyama and his beliefs and put two and two together before others did but if you didn’t do that at all or know some of the trivia behind it then fuck

a lot of people weren’t able to put it together until it was too late

it had some pretty compelling themes going in it and politics in it and it was kinda compelling actually, i sitll think that despite everything

then they finally went in the goddamn basement and what did they find?????????????? facism

honestly its really sad how compelling and interesting SNK was and how cool the themes were before it finally started showing all the bad shit the author promotes like COME ON,,,,

honestly i can’t help but be impressed (and disgusted) at how long he was able to keep that shit hidden and try to make it appealing only to just... do all that

i watched like. the first season of snk in high school and was super into it, even though the military worship stuff gave me a bad taste and i was well aware of the fact that it was creepily white... and then i found out about the kind of person isayama was and what he meant the story to be and i just NOPEd the fuck out

My dad knows what snk is bc he’s a high school history teacher and one of his students told him all about it in like 2013 and now if one of his students brings up anime he asks them if they like attack on titan bc he hasn’t watched it and doesn’t know that it’s fascist propaganda even tho I’ve told him like six times. The only other anime he’s heard of is madoka magica bc I was obsessed with it as a Teen
