IT’S  ALL  ABOUT  THE  YEARNING

It takes Reki by surprise ; the statement, the question, the sudden realization that perhaps he wasn’t the only one who couldn’t quite chase the insecurities away, that Langa wanted to hold onto Reki for as long as he could, just as badly as Reki wanted to hold onto him. It’s too much at once, and Reki finds he can’t hold Langa’s blue gaze. So he averts his eyes, glancing to the side as a hand nervously moves to tug at his headband. 

“ .... I dunno.” ( a shrug ). “If you’re selfish, I’m selfish.” 

Except he was, wasn’t he? That’s what he had been telling himself all this time — that it was selfish to want things to stay the same. That he was ultimately holding Langa back. 

Maybe —. If they were both ——. 

“ And I do. Uh. Need you, I mean. I do.” 

( it was okay to be a little selfish, right? )

This isn’t some grand revelation. All it took was a slightly curious glance from Langa in the direction of a skateboard for Reki to attach himself to the blue haired boy’s side — much to the chagrin of their classmates, who had also taken an interest in the cool, mysterious foreigner. 

Reki and Langa had long since become RekiandLanga. An inseparable pair. A matching set. 

But when Langa says this, it’s different somehow ; something Reki can’t quite place, but he can feel it seeping into his bones soft and revenant. It’s a feeling that’s half terrifying and half exhilarating, like flying off the cliff at ‘ S ‘ and not knowing where he was going to land but somehow knowing that if his best friend were waiting for him at the other side then that was all that mattered.

It’s a leap of faith. Seize the moment. 

He smiles back in way of response, a gentle grin that could put the sun to shame. A beat passes, and he moves to take hold of the other boy’s hand, gently lacing their fingers together with a soft squeeze. Langa knows, he thinks, he has to, there’s no way he doesn’t but even so —. 

“You’re mine too.”

“C’mon, don’t give me that look.” 

There’s a soft laugh underlaying his words ; he’s not bothered, not really, despite any half - hearted complaints he might give the snowy boy. He’s always been weak to Langa, quick to cave at any request if it means he’ll get to see that gentle smile directed towards him. Really, the puppy dog eyes aren’t even necessary — only expediting the inevitable, with Reki fondly rolling his eyes. 

He doesn’t get why Langa insists on goodbye kisses when they’ll see each other again in a few hours ( regular attendance at ‘ S ‘ wasn’t without its sacrifices after all, namely being a full nights sleep ), though he’s happy to oblige. A quick glance is spared at their surroundings to make no one else is around before Reki leans in, settling a hand against the other’s thigh to balance himself as he presses a gentle kiss to Langa’s lips. It only lasts a second before he pulls away, just barely, with a small smile. 

“‘Night. Text me when you get home. See you in   the morning.”

“Do you even know what the pocky game is?!” 

Comes his frantic response at the suggestion, words practically a yelp. He waves his arms in a sort of panic, the freshly opened box of pocky rattling as he does so. It’s gotta be some sort of misunderstanding, right? Langa is still getting used to Japanese culture, he doesn’t actually know what kind of game that is — he just focussed in on the part about food, as he was prone to do. 

Either way, once Langa’s made his mind up about wanting to do something, little can be done to sway him. He was stubborn like that, a fact which Reki was well aware of. So it’s with a ( rather dramatic ) sigh that he hangs his head, before fishing out a single piece of candy. 

“ ... Fine.” 

He huffs, rolling his eyes as he sets the treat between his teeth and lifts his head once more. His gaze lingers on the other for only a second before quickly glancing elsewhere. 

“Jus’ don’ bite me tryin’ get t’it.” 

( and ignore the way his entire face flushes red ).

SOUR SENTENCE STARTERS

The look Reki shoots him can only be described as withering. 

He holds it, silent and unrelenting for a few moments with poorly contained frustration bubbling just beneath the surface. And then all at once, he lets it go with something between a sigh and a groan, scrubbing harshly at his face before flopping flat onto his back, limbs askew like a starfish. 

Langa may be his best friend, but Reki doesn’t think he’ll ever fully understand him. Maybe Oka had a point when he said they were totally different. 

“Langa, dude? I kinda — I kinda don’t wanna hear it.    If you’ve gotta say it, fine, I’ll listen, but — I’d kinda   rather we just drop it. For now, at least.”

    IT’S JUST MAKOTO’S LUCK to get caught up in a situation like this— he could have sworn the weather was supposed to be nice the last time he checked! Without even the thought of potential rain in mind and definitely without an umbrella, Makoto only has the hood of his jacket as vague protection against the downpour ( which barely helps, only gets soaked along with the rest of him ). 

   Already shivering, he glances around for a potential hiding place ( he’s been stuck in this weather to already tell he’ll inevitably get sick later, but at least he could stop it from being worse! ), before his eyes lock on Langa instead. Struck with surprise, Makoto quickly moves forward to get his attention. 

   “AH— Langa?” He calls out, absolutely drenched clothing clinging to his smaller stature, while droplets slide down his face— both from the sky and the damp tufts of hair that obscure his vision and make it even more difficult to see what’s going on. “I guess we both got stuck out here, heh— we should probably get inside, though...! You don’t look so good, either...”
