Chris noticed something was off the second Daisy didn’t text him back within five minutes.
He showed up at her apartment twenty minutes later, hoodie on, grocery bag in hand, and concern written all over his face.
“Daisy?”
A weak voice called from the couch, “In here…”
She was bundled under two blankets, hair messy, tissues everywhere.
Chris’s heart broke. “Babe…”
“I have the plague,” she whispered dramatically. “Don’t get too close.”
“Too late,” he said, kicking off his shoes and setting the grocery bag down. “I brought soup, ginger ale, cough drops, and your favorite gummies.”
“You’re the best,” she sniffled.
He knelt beside her. “And I also brought me.”
“I don’t want you to get sick—”
Chris climbed onto the couch and pulled her into his arms gently. “Shhh. Snuggles are non-negotiable.”
Daisy melted into him, face tucked into his chest. “I probably look awful.”
“You look adorable and sick and snuggly. Which is exactly my type today.”
She chuckled weakly. “You’re ridiculous.”
Chris kissed her forehead. “You’re my patient now. Doctor’s orders: stay in my arms, watch cartoons, and don’t move.”
They stayed like that all afternoon — soup half-finished, tissues scattered, and Chris rubbing her back until she drifted off mid-sentence.
He didn’t mind at all.
