The Blaine/Darren (is this Glee or Inception??) songwriting convo

OMG!!!!! He’s concentrating and playing and… is he WRITING???????  Ugh help me.  If they have a DC song on Glee I will forgive them almost EVERYTHING ever.  But… my preference is that Darren writes a song just for it.  Yes.  Yes that would be stellar.  Because he so easily can.  Oh please.

That’s clearly an acting moment on his face.  Darren doesn’t chill out between takes and accidentally throw an emotion-filled look on his face and keep that look going for a camera to set up a stylized shot like this, and then allow Ryan to tweet it.  He’s acting.  So why is Blaine concentrating so hard and processing some feelings through his playing and keeping an open notebook right where one would when songwriting at the piano?  Ugghhhhhhhhhhh Ryan wouldn’t tease us like this would he?  Blaine writes a song Blaine writes a song!!!!

NOW… the worry is, will Alex Anders and Max Martin or some such write some huge machinated pop number, or will Brad Falchuk write some silly ditty to be taken as funny, or will they have alsdoaisuboawhfeiojawera wlsfasdfjka lasdjfaoisdfo al;skdjfoaisdfu io Darren Criss freaking write a song for Glee?

My mind just kind of flashed to this picture so that’s why I was iffy on Blaine or Darren. I want Blaine to write a song for Kurt and have Kurt see it but I don’t want Darren to write it. Darren can write a super fun group number and it’ll be awesome but I just don’t want him writing for himself as Blaine because he’s said that it’s not something he wants to do and although he’s very professional with both acting and songwriting so I’m sure it would be flawless I’d know it wasn’t his ideal so I’d have a crazy amount of mixed feelings.

It would be a song Blaine would be trying to write for the group to compete with, most likely.  I’d hope they didn’t do any numbers in competitions anymore that have just one or two out of the 12 required singers actually singing the ENTIRE song.  Rachel’s original song that was just her singing about her boyfriend was silly for a competition, as was Don’t Rain on My Parade even though I’m incredibly glad the world has the Lea Michele version of that song now, even at the expense of stupidity on the show of having one of the competition numbers be 100% a solo performance.   If they did have a thing where the Glee club tried to write original songs to compete with again, and they actually asked Darren to write one, (not likely but a girl can dream) I’m sure it would be on his terms.

Having a solo or duet is a standard Glee competition episode thing. I really hope it’s a big Tina moment or a Blina duet. If Darren writes an original I hope it gets the Extraordinary Merry Christmas treatment and the fact that it’s an original is never mentioned in cannon. They can just promote it in press and when they do the “these songs are available at itunes” thing at the end of the episode they can add “including ______ by Glee’s own Darren Criss”.

What if Tina sings To Have a Home?

oh wow.  

Or like… several of them, with different reasons that make it resonate with them while they sing their turn?  I know that’s an already existing song and not my dream of him writing something for Glee showcasing his amazing on-demand writing ability, but it’s such a great song for graduating seniors finding their tribe or whatnot when checking out colleges and other options, or even the younger Glee kids finding the Glee club as a place to belong finally…. Oh god imagine Kurt singing it after discovering a NYADA musical theatre club or something…………

I’m starting to not want Blaine shown writing an original song by Darren though.  It does seem kind of ick now that I really imagine that part of it.  I do want Glee to cover a DC song sometime though.  Just maybe yeah, not with Blaine being shown writing it.  I don’t know… I’m torn on that now.  Glee is nutty enough for it to work but also it could seem so silly but then again not really but…. yup I’m torn.  OH!  I think it’s the kind of song that’s doing this to me.  If you have the character writing a song and then you commission the actor to write it, it’s not much different than commissioning anyone else to write it.  If you do a COVER of an existing song by an actor on the show and then write in the show that the character played by that actor wrote that song, it’s weird.

NONONONONONONO!!!!!!!!! Absolutely no Darren songs while he’s around or even ever by characters Blaine is close with. WAY TOO WEIRD!!!!!! If they want new McKinley kids singing his stuff after Blaine graduates I’d be totally okay with it.

But I still want a video of Lea (or Jenna) singing The Coolest Girl.

(I thought I'd free our comments from the original post at this point so that I can do a readmore and such!)

What if Blaine is trying to write a song for competition, and the end result he presents to the group is one of the funny style offerings written by the writers and music producers together just like Trouty Mouth, My Headband, Hell To The No....  (Heck, Darren could even collaborate on the lyrics of something like like for fun because who cares, funny).  

BUT!  When Blaine's at the piano working out the music for it, Darren keeps throwing in little musical references to his songs?  Now THAT would be funny and awesome.  And it would be far less fourth-wall breaking than all the stupid meta that they make characters spout off constantly on the show these days!
