There is a New Solar Opposites Zine out this year! It is being made by a different team this year and will be up for grabs before December ends!
i still gaf about solar opposites 😭
Going absolutely feral at work over this guy
"All I want is Peace, Love, Understanding, and a Chocolate Bar."
Terry
"It's not a blow job sweetie, it's a blow career"
I’d like to say a few things about Solar Opposites:
Korvo and Terry’s relationship feel like it is dead ringing similar to Bert and Ernie’s relationship from Sesame Street. You know the troupe, one is grumpy, pessimistic, and totally either a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin. While the other is a ray-of-sunshine, optimistic, and either a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor.
How were the children, Yumyulack and Jesse, created? Like, was this family always a unit before the asteroid hit their planet and Korvo and Terry reproduced to create them? The children have been referred to as “replicants,” so this leads me to think that, maybe, each child is some kind of clone or loose replicant (obvi) of one of their guardians.
Yumyulack looks very similar to Korvo except he has lighter skin with his bigger counterpart. They both have the darker, grumpier personalities. Plus, their names are both alien or seem more unique, probably more traditional Shlorpian names.
Jesse looks very similar to Terry, except through her clothes, voice, and behavior, she is a female, the only (apparent) female of the unit. They both have flamboyant, optimistic personalities. And, just as Yumyulack and Korvo’s names are similar, as in more traditional, Jesse and Terry’s names are modern and assimilating more with the culture of the planet they landed on (Also, their names both end with the [i] / -ee sound).
I wonder if their names were always Jesse and Terry, or if they took up these names when they landed on earth? They do seem more of the open type to easily welcome a new change to their whole identities, like a name change, compared to Korvo and Yumyulack.
Also, are Yumyulack and Jesse actually blood relitives? I have seen a few things here and there of shipping them together, romantically, and if I would join that ship, I would feel a little more comfortable doing so if I was more certain that they are more like step-siblings or kinda like roommates that are like best friends, (since they are of similar ages alone in their struggle of being alien children on Earth) than if they were actually blood related. ¯\_( ಠ_ಠ)_/¯
I think my favorite character is Jesse (so far)! She is really precious and cute~
