Tepatiani

The tepatiani  is a doctor who specializes in massage.  The full name for this method is apapaxtli tlawayotl maihpahtli.  When this phrase is broken down a beautiful concept emerges.  According to my teacher, Ehekateotl, apapaxtli means apapachar; which in Spanish is a common expression of love, but the word also means “to soften.”  Tlawayotl means “what is generated from the heart of the people, “ and maihpahtli  signifies “the hands that heal.”  So the complete idea is “to soften what the heart of the people generate with hands that heal.”  In modern day curanderismo, the tepatiani is now referred to as a sobador  (massage therapist).
