Leo Babauta reimagines our society with minimal values at its core
Leo Babauta reimagines a society that can become a reality now, with simplified adjustments and reassessment of what is truly important. Minimalist values incorporated in the way we govern our communities/society.
This includes points of change like:
Cars banished an replaced with mass transport links and encouraging more walking and cycling.
School system erased and redesigned. Leo imagines that by changing our school systems philosophy to educate through ‘unschool’ methods would create “a much more human system, and better if your goal is to get the kids to actually learn, to enjoy learning, to figure out how to do things themselves, to create and be self-motivated … pretty much what I hope my kids will do as adults. How do we do this? We help them find things they’re interested in, and try not to force them to do anything. They read books they find interesting, work on projects that are fun to them, get excited about things, make things.”
Sharing vs. Consumerism regarding shared community gardens to grow fruit and vegetables and swap them with neighbours. Reducing carbon footprint that importation of food causes.
Housing built with community development in mind or building smaller housing with low waste and low emissions and better use of space. This is in response large houses and mansions with excessive space they do not need. Incurring debts to keep them running -this would take a change in people’s mindset away from status in possessions-like a large house-to get them on board with this one.
