Great turn out for #SDBB, Social Data Best and Brightest, Meet Up last night at Magnet Media!
The Crowd-Powered Consumer
As consumers, we are constantly inundated with information. We see 5,000 ads per day, receive over 40 pounds of junk mail every year and over 90% of emails are junk. While most of our purchasing decisions are likely a result of our individual needs, a great deal of influence also comes from the opinion of others – those around us who have as much to say about our purchases as we do. And in most cases, we tend to trust other people over companies. That’s why we hit up the internet to find the latest on products, places, and the like… in order to make the most informed purchases.
Sysomos, whose CEO Jim Delaney, will speak at Social Data Week New York on September 20, looked into all the phrases on Twitter that people use to seek recommendations for purchases. To help us make all that information as valuable as possible, they’ve checked out how many times each recommendation has been used in the past 6 months. And – the neat part – if you add up all the different conversations, nearly 9 million people have taken to social in the latter half of the year to seek out influence from others! Brands – now’s the time to want customers out there talking about your products, if they’re saying the right things of course. Check out their infographic:
If you’re interested in learning how else social is influencing today’s information-driven age, register to attend Social Data Week in San Francisco or New York next week. It’s not too late!
