KLM To Launch Social Seating
Now this is definitely taking the idea of embracing social media to the next level. According to viralblog.com, KLM will launch social seating in 2012. Passangers will have the option during the online check-in process, to choose their seat next next to someone they might now from Facebook or LinkedIn. Speed dating - both in the personal and business setting is likely to transpire. I remember the first time I flew Virgin, and noticed a feature on their TV consoles whereby you could chat and play games with other passengers on the flight. I always found this a bit odd, and reminiscent of the anonomyous AOL chat room days.
I think KLM's idea is brilliant, and takes Virgin's idea to a more relevant level. Some might argue that this could make long-haul airplane rides quite a bit noisier, especially if you're the passenger who was expecting to get some shut eye, but instead are sitting next to a "first meet-up" social seating couple. Regardless, I still think its an interesting idea worth following-up on.
