Taking a break from drawing the Discworld roundels. Working instead on the Discworld social network. 39 books done, two to go. After which I will get together with a friend with a much better recollection of the books and he will help me refine the network. . . This coloring is how the program clustered the groups. It’s on par with how they are grouped on the web site. One note, the green nodes in the center are actually two different groups. The program isn’t equipped to tell if adjoining nodes are the same color. . Tomorrow I return to more drawing. . . #terrypratchett #discworld #socialnetwork #sna #socialnetworkanalysis #newmangrouping #clustering #nodesandedges

Can social network analysis help prevent terrorism?
Sociology professor Matthew Brashears calls it the “Ikea problem.” In a nutshell: just because you have the instructions for how to put something together doesn’t mean you can actually make it work.
“If you were Al-Qaeda and you got your hands on enough weapons-grade uranium to build a nuclear bomb, would you hand if off to some guy and say, ‘See what you can do with this’—or would you recruit somebody who knows what he’s doing?” Brashears says.
The phenomenon is all too familiar to frustrated fans of the Swedish chain’s assemble-it-yourself furniture—but Brashears cites it in regard to a weightier subject. When it comes to building a weapon of mass destruction, he says, the notion that terrorists can just download instructions off the Internet doesn’t hold water. To make what’s known as a CBRN weapon—one that is chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear—requires what’s known as “tacit knowledge,” which is skill and familiarity with a subject that can only be gained through training and experience. And that, Brashears says, may someday give intelligence agencies a way to prevent such devices from ever being built.

Tools to help you find the right #hashtag (or whether yours are old news and/or getting lost in the noise) On page 2 (of 2) of this blog post, there are some awesome tools to help you generate and monitor hashtags across a whole host of platforms. Even a list of all platforms that use them (and there are many!). It's worth not only noting the tools, but also how #SocialNetworkAnalysis helps us understand the ways hashtags are used on different platforms. There's also a very interesting theory that hashtags used in your web content can add another layer to your keywords for #SEO . Another suggests that Capitalisation does not matter in hashtags for the search engines, but it does help readability for the user. We've seen many authoritative blogs begin to use hashtags in their blog post titles. There may come a day when this feature is picked out by indexers. Is it already? May be. It's similar to a premise I worked on with facebook. Long before they introduced hashtags, I was putting them into my facebook posts. Then whaddayerknow? There they were, my posts all primed and ready to be found when FB succumbed. Great find by Kamal Bennani. Polite Request: If you'd like to pass on the benefit of the above additional insight to *your followers* when you share this post on, please don't forget to h/t me and include this URL: http://goo.gl/Tuj13i thank you ☺. ▼ Reshared Post From Kamal Bennani ▼ Tags and hashtags: The ultimate guide to using them effectively Researching the right keywords, expressions, tags and hashtags is more essential than ever. The case for keywords is pretty much won. But many marketers still overlook the importance of researching tags and hashtags. http://click-to-read-mo.re/p/4v4c
