“A boy and his sock eater”

Young Mark McWoodland (20 years old) with a sock-eater (mangiacalzini is the original Italian word) on his shoulder. The sock-eaters are creatures that normally live in the spiritual plane of reality... but when they enter our world they seem made of solidified shadows and smoke, all soft and squishy, but with an unexpected strength. And no, sock-eaters don't really eat socks.

This is an illustration (made with a ballpoint pen) for the chapter "Il mangiacalzini" of our book "Il Fiore e l'Artiglio" (written in Italian, sorry not sorry).

So there i am sorting out my laundry, dropping them in their designated piles before their shoved in a drawer and i come across a lone sock, despondent with grief, his left mate has vanished, they were thrown into the washer together and then nothing. I place the poor sock to the side, and continue sorting, hoping to find his friend. And i find another sock, also despondent with grief, his stripy partner has also gone missing. Again, i place him to the side hoping (all the while cursing) that i will find both. And another, and another tucked between T-shirts, vests and shorts. 5 lone socks all different colours and patterns, all of them missing their left partner. So, I march down stairs (well sort of as stairs and still not my friend) and confront my mother, - “Right you, we are having words, I am aware you missing cooing at the lizard, but for the love of the stars mother, stop sacrificing my left socks to the Sock-Eater, so you can bribe him into being your new pet, I have lone and despondent socks upstairs mother, this needs to stop” She looks at me and just laughs, as she leans back into her chair smug.
