at the end of the day, raven was right when she called apple selfish, but that doesn’t make apple wrong in calling raven selfish, too. of course raven’s glad other people can follow their own destiny. but the reason she didn’t sign because she, personally, didn’t want to. it wasn’t a grand rebellion, it was the terrified actions of a selfish girl. that’s okay—and interesting. we don’t have to treat “selfish” like a dirty word; it isn’t a moral failing. these girls attack each other with it because the idea of putting your own wants and desires over the feelings of other people is, in their world, unforgivable. we don’t need to do the same.

epic winter literally would've made so much more sense if the snow queen never got a husband & instead continued drifting absentmindedly around the kingdom. eventually realizing she had to pick an heir she grabbed a random ice pixie named crystal that she decided to make her daughter by adopting her & then doting on her excessively before completely disappearing & leaving crystal in charge. the reason jackie hates her is because it could've been any of them. why was it crystal? why her? why not jackie? crystal meanwhile has never experienced parental love before & becomes completely dependent on making her mother proud of her & gradually growing more bitter about her absence & eventually deciding to steal the four roses etc etc in order to get her attention. this is basically my epic winter rewrite idea
