A pity story wouldn’t win in espionage.
" Let's start from the very beginning, Fidel, or should I say, Natia Filipska." the man said as Natia narrowed her eyes towards the man," You are of Polish blood, are you not?"
" I am." Natia said quickly," What's that have to do with waking me up at 3 in the morning?" The man behind the desk offered a pitiful smile in her direction and Natia grimaced; she seemed to have discovered in the past few months that she can't quite put on the best poker face as Ryzshard had called it.
" Your sister and brother, Klimeck and Ryzshard, respectfully, both cooperated and listened as I spoke, without a hint of sarcasm in their voice, so if you could do much of the same it would be greatly appreciated Miss Filipska." the man said and Natia clenched her jaw tighter at his words. Men with power enacting it upon the pawns that drained from enemy occupied countries. It made her skin crawl. She didn't react to his words - she knew he had wanted her to.
" Let's get started."
" I'm sure to speak to my brother and sister you didn't wake them at 3 in the morning." Natia couldn't help but comment.
" They didn't give a reason to." the man muttered and Natia stiffened," Let's get started. Describe to me the morning of September 1st if you would." Natia watched him, her pulse quickening at his words, her mind icing over and her hands becoming clammy. She watched to see if it were some sort of joke, a lie, a way to get under her skin. But his face drew on question and answer, nothing of deceit or the want to upset.
" 4:45 am I heard the sirens." Natia said quietly with a nod," They come from just outside my bedroom window on the first floor. I thought it were some sort of dream." Natia felt the onslaught of fresh tears overwhelm her vision and she hit herself in her head for getting emotional, for letting those emotions she felt take hold of her conversation. A pity story wouldn't win in espionage.
