Sofia Maymula in La Sylphide.
Can we talk about how refreshing Sofia Maymula is? I'd first seen her on the ballet day bolshoi livestream in 2023, the part in honour of Svetlana Adyrkhaeva. Then to be honest I'd forgotten about her, until very recently, and I am obsessed!! She's still so young, but I see great potential for great things, she gives me the most positive vibes ever
Sofia Maymula is an amazing dancer! She brings something so special and joyful on stage with her. She needs to début Shyrin right now! I think she'd also be a great Juliet soon. I was also pretty surprised a while back when Kruteleva was promoted to First Soloist instead of her. I guess Kruteleva's promotion was more of a reward for being dependable for so long in the theatre, but Maymula is really dancing at least at a First Soloist level right now.

Maimula totally caught my eye in Nutcracker, but she really nailed her recent debut in La Sylphide. That was a huge breakout for her — so light and airy and charming.
I’ve seen some behind the scenes of her at the Bolshoi in rehearsal, and she also strikes me as an incredibly hard worker. You can see that effort play off on stage. She keeps getting better. She’s kind of the dark horse stalking Koshkaryova’s meteoric rise.
Maimula reminds me of a young Obraztsova, and I could see Maimula step into those career-defining roles: Aurora, Giselle, the lead from Marco Spada. But she also has the long lines for a Bolshoi Odile/Odette. But for now, slow and steady.
I mean….she’s already getting tribute videos so she’s clearly getting some well-deserved attention.
Sofia Maymula in Raymonda.
is it safe to say that sofia maymuka kindaaaa remind me nina kaptsova?
Ahhh yes you are so right!! Kaptsova is a little less . . . fragile looking in her dancing if that makes sense. She feels more anchored. But yes, they both have a similar kind of classic elegance. And also a springiness and energy to them! Maymula is such a bright young dancer and Kaptsova is one of my all-time favorite Bolshoi ballerinas so thanks for this comment!!
I absolutely loved Sofia Maymula's debut as the Sylph! This role is perfect for her, so glad she was given a shot at it. I also think in a few years she'll make a stunning Juliet.
She performed in La Sylphide opposite Daniil Potaptsev, and I really enjoyed the energy and youthfulness of this partnership!

She’s a very talented dancer. Very very spry! I think she’s a soloist so she’s been getting pretty good roles. I thought her Sylphide was great!
Sofia Maymula is debuting Swanhilda in Coppelia on March 11th! So excited, this is the perfect role for her!
