Daylily "Mount Helena' erupting in my gardens this past July. This variety is a bit slow to get momentum going, but once it's established it puts on a large and long show.

Coming up Tulips
Today's sketches. I'm becoming more confident with the form of the tulips, so my sketches are getting slightly more complicated. The plan is to color these with watercolors in a more delicate ethereal style. Tonight I'm just going to pick out the colors I want to use and practice water to paint ratios, glazing compatibility and brush strokes.

Siberian squill (Scilla siberica) from the 2023 gardens.
Siberian squill (Scilla siberica) is a small, early-spring flowering bulb plant native to parts of Russia and southwestern Asia. It produces short stems with nodding, star-shaped, deep blue flowers and narrow, grass-like leaves. Blooming in late winter to early spring, often through melting snow, it naturalizes easily and is commonly used in gardens for ground cover due to its hardiness and ability to spread.
One of my favorite flowers. I just love how it looks like Mother Nature painted each individual petal with watercolors! Such a beautiful flower.

I like growing roses. You tend, you wait, and one day you step outside and know they’re blooming before you even see them - the way they transform the atmosphere of your garden is magical!
