Sophomore defender, Emily Sonnett Awkward college Sonny in full effect
“Sometimes I feel like all the love you give is going to make me implode one day.” + sonny? verse of your choosing!
Sonny rubbed his feet with yours under the blanket. The simple gesture made you smile. These were the days you treasured. It was a rare day that found the two of you home alone. Sonny’s Mom was keeping the girls for the weekend. There were plans of going to a show and dinner at The View restaurant overlooking Central Park that Sonny had made reservations for weeks ago.
A freak snowstorm basically paralyzed the city leaving you and Sonny snuggling on the couch under an electric blanket. The radio played softly in the background as the two of you read.
Sonny pushed his glasses up his nose concentrating on his book of law case studies. Even though he decided not to pursue a career in law he still liked to keep up to date. While you knew he loved being with SVU, you secretly wished he would use his law degree. Him not out chasing perps, not getting shot at and not having to work all hours would definitely help you sleep better at night.
He looked adorable right now with his furrowed brow, dark-rimmed glasses, and floppy hair. Every once in awhile you would catch his lips moving with the words he was reading. Sometimes he would nod his head and make notes on the legal pad with the Montblanc fountain pen you bought him after he passed his boards. The cap and clip were engraved with his name.
“Need something?” he asked not looking up. His eyes continued to skim the page.
“Just thinking how cute you are and how lucky I am to have landed you,” you replied. Placing a page marker in your book you placed it on the coffee table.
Sonny grinned raising his eyes to meet yours. “You landed me?” Sonny snapped the cap back on his pen and placed in the case and put the legal pad in the book and closed it.
“Mmm-hmm,” you said with a nod.
He tisked and wagged a finger at you. “I don’t think so. I’m the one that landed you. If I remember correctly it took me knockin’ you up and askin’ you to marry me twice before I finally beat you into submission.”
"Whatever. I’m hungry,” you announced pushing up from the couch and rubbing your small belly. “Think Santos is open?”
“I can guarantee they’re open. What is my son craving?” Sonny asked as he picked up the phone.
“Your son? What if it’s another girl?”
Sonny shrugged. “But it’s a boy this time. This pregnancy has already been different than when you were pregnant with Autumn and Emilia.”
“Every pregnancy is different.”
“Nope when you were pregnant with the girls you had evening sickness, you craved spicy foods, and you carried them high,” he explained ticking off on his fingers.
“Sonny,” you sighed rolling your eyes, “that’s old wives tales.”
“Fine. We’ll see,” he replied. “Still want Santos?”
You shook your head. “Could you make chicken alfredo? Please,” you pouted.
“I think I can whip that up,” he said.
“You’re the best,” you said then gave Sonny a peck on the cheek.
“And don’t you forget it, doll,” he replied.
The distinctive melodic voice of Nat King Cole rang through the house after dinner. Sonny was singing along to “The Very Thought of You”. Your head rested on his chest so you could feel the vibrations of his voice. Sonny’s hands traced up and down your back gently as you swayed back and forth. “I love you so much. So much no one would ever understand, not even you. Sometimes it feels like all the love you give is going to make me implode one day,” Sonny said softly into your ear.
“I love you too but I’ll try to tone it down a bit then,” you said tilting your head to look up at him.
Sonny smiled. “Don’t. It’s the most I have ever felt loved, supported, and nurtured since we’ve been together.” He leaned down to deliver a soft, warm kiss to your lips. “Never, ever change how you love me.”
“And you never stop kissing me like that and we’ll not have any problems,” you replied.
