Elmo and his fairy friend, Abby, are going to cook something yummy for us today!

This was made for @creatingblackcharacters dtiys event.

Elmo and most of the muppet characters of Sesame Street have always been Black, no debate.

The show was made primarily with Black kids in mind, as low-income neighborhoods like Harlem had limited access to educational content. Shows like Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow helped provide children new engaging ways to learn and play. It also demonstrated how diverse Black representation can be.

As much of an icon Elmo was, it always bothered me when people insisted that he wasn’t Black. He may not be human, but he’s literally the typical 4-yr old Black child. If you don’t feel that is the case: skill issue
