from the soft spectrum 2 judging sheet
of course it's a train wreck to paste in here, so I'll just paste the comments from each judge:
Great intro, synth is a little heavy on the high end - some things are a little too crunchy to be relaxing/chill. And, woah, actual sub! Woo. Ouch, that snare is annoyingly nasal - so is the EP. Absolutely love the chords here - very refreshing. Sound design overall is very creative, though the mixing suffers quite a bit. Song doesn't evolve that much. Seems a little rushed.
rather interesting introduction with the array of synths you provide. the mix has a feel of barely holding together, like it's just a half step from falling apart, but then you transition into this wonderful and well-strapped pad which is assisted by all the other elements. Your use of effects here is quite effective (see what I did there...?) as you introduce percussion and the pads and progression starts to move outward you include a much larger peripheral of the stereo field. Quite impressive with the transition, actually. great job. I think the distortion here might have been a little bit too much, but I digress that point. it was well put together in that sci fashion everyone knows and loves. an interesting other direction from you entry last year.
A wide array of arpeggiated noises and then a nice distorted pad for a moment. Does get into a very loud and throbbing beat that seems quite abrassive but interesting. Definitely one of the few adept IDM entries for this comp. Not my favorite but worth likely voting in.
- Right off the bat the mix is messy. It sounds like you spent the most minimal amount of time you could on the mix.
- Frequencies are missing, frequencies are harsh and too built up, some are too dull.
- wow, songs over... that was fast, not necessarily a good or bad thing though. It kinda felt too soon and somewhat abrubt.
- Sound design is interestng at times but the poor mix takes away from it. All the distortions take away from the chill factor, not enough to hurt you much but it was too much.
total score was 129/200, four yes's, and an inclusion on the album.
