since a lot of people are interested in the story of Cola (the dog with the prosthetic legs) and the Soi Dog Foundation as a whole, I thought I’d link this little video that talks about one of the co-founders of Soi Dog, Gill Dalley, who is the one who adopted Cola and gave him his forever home with her and her husband, John. Unfortunately, it’s been just over a year since Gill passed away from her battle with cancer, but she is remembered fondly by all of the staff and volunteers of Soi Dog.

If you’re interested in giving a stray dog or cat a forever home, please consider adopting from the Soi Dog Foundation. Adopting a rescue dog or cat is not easy work; they have been through hell in their lives, and they come with baggage. But earning the love of a rescue dog is the most rewarding thing. I adopted my Soi Dog just over a month and a half ago. It cost me roughly $800 CAD to get her home, but that included the price of her overnight stay in Bangkok the night before her flight, the cost of the flight, her travel crate, and her paperwork and vaccinations. The flight volunteer who accompanied her home was an absolute delight, and all of the volunteers and staff have been so helpful from the very beginning, from when I was picking out a dog to adopt up until now, where they continue to check in and support me in my needs regarding my pup.

We have a community on Facebook for people who have adopted Soi Dogs, and we share pictures and experiences and challenges that we may face. We help and support one another, and even the staff working in Thailand are part of the group and love seeing updates of the pups and cats in their new homes. It’s such an incredible experience, to be able to be part of a community that’s so full of love and a passion for rescue. I can’t even put it into words.

In short, if you’re interested in adopting, please get in touch with Soi Dog. They are such a wonderful organization, and I cannot express how grateful I am to them for all of the work they do. If adopting is not an option for you, they do have a shop where you can pay for food/vaccinations/blankets/toys or you can simply donate. They also have sponsor programs for dogs who are not/may never be ready to be adopted, either due to health problems or simply because of previous trauma.

RIP Gill, and thank you for everything you’ve done.
