A bunch of NPCs from Paragon~
I single-handedly kill all my players with a cute NPC who they’d die for- by briefly killing him.
He’s ok now.
More tokens for Catharsis. They met a lot of characters in the first session, these are more Solstice members.
A few of the characters I can show off for Catharsis, the next pokemon tabletop I’ll run. A lot of character designs are done, but won’t reveal them until players have actually met the character.
Mishal is of course the leader of team Solstice with his casual design revealed, and Kindle is the second in command. Facade is a brand new member that will be accompanying players as new trainers.
A bunch more NPCs for Penumbra!
Dragons of Eryndara:
Solaris Swifts are a fascinating and complex species within the Kingdom of Asteria, embodying the elements of air and fire. Their biology, behavior, and cultural significance make them a cornerstone of Eryndara's ecosystem and mythology.
Like most dragons of Eryndara, Solaris Swifts and Golden Solaris Swifts carry the same body plan. A distinct body morphology characterized by serpentine forms, a singular set of hind limbs, and wings that serve primarily as the prominent appendages for terrestrial locomotion. This anatomical configuration results in a posture akin to avian species and wyverns. In contrast to sorcerers and dragon riders, dragons possess only fire-breathing and physical combat capabilities; they do not utilize magic, and while exhibiting high levels of intelligence, they lack the capacity for human speech.
Solaris Swifts
Agile, fire-breathing dragons of Dravalia in the Kingdom of Asteria, embodying air and fire. Serpentine bodies, a single pair of hind limbs, and wings for flight and terrestrial movement define them, with scales in fiery oranges, muted golds, and soft whites.
Biology Size Progression and Life Cycle: Hatchlings: Bat-sized (6-12 inches) or bird-sized (1-2 feet) upon rebirth from Elder flame, fragile yet vocal.
Fledglings: Small-horse size (~4-5 feet tall, 8-10 feet long), growing into their voices.
Adults: 20-30 feet long, 40-50-foot wingspan.
Elders: Rare, 53 meters (174 feet) long, 59-meter wingspan, 9 meters tall—their roars a force of nature. Rebirth hinges on an Elder’s flame, scarce and critical.
Vocalizations: Hatchlings: Chirps, coos, warbles, trills, and shrill shrieks—a cacophony of small, avian-like sounds. Chirps and coos signal hunger or bonding, warbles and trills mark play or curiosity, while shrill shrieks erupt in distress or defiance, piercing despite their size.
Fledglings: An awkward blend of hatchling and adult calls—shrill chirps morph into metallic warbles, coos deepen into raspy trills, and shrieks gain a grating edge. Their voices crack mid-call, reflecting their transitional stage.
Adults/Elders: Shrill and metallic roars, deafening in volume—a resonant, piercing sound like clashing steel or a banshee’s wail. Adults project dominance or warnings, while Elders amplify this into a thunderous, landscape-shaking bellow, audible for miles.
Main Causes of Death: Poaching: Horns, tails, talons, wings—lured by their roars’ fame, poachers strike when calls reveal locations.
Rider-Paired Solaris Swift: Rare, targeting rogues—metallic roars draw Rider attention to problem Swifts.
Loneliness: Social dragons—silent nests signal despair, their calls fading with isolation.
No Elder for Rebirth: Elder roars summon the wounded, but scarcity leaves many unanswered.
Abilities Fire-Breathing: Hatchlings spark, fledglings burst erratically, adults stream flames—Elders’ roars often precede their incinerating blaze, a dual assault.
Flight: Calls punctuate aerial mastery—hatchlings trill in clumsy flutters, adults shriek in dives.
Physical Combat: Roars intimidate foes—fledglings’ awkward cries belie their growing strength.
Behavior Temperament: Stubborn: Hatchlings shriek persistently, fledglings trill through stumbles, adults roar defiance—Elder scarcity tests their resolve.
Irritable: Shrill shrieks (hatchlings) or metallic bellows (adults) flare at slights—fledglings snap mid-transition.
Vain: Calls are a performance—adults roar to echo across Dravalia, hatchlings trill to impress clutchmates.
Arrogant: Deafening roars assert dominance—fledglings mimic this clumsily, believing their awkward cries reign supreme.
Above Others: Vocalizations demand attention—loneliness silences them, a rare humility.
Intelligence: Reborn memories tune their calls—hatchlings coo for kin, adults roar tactically, though arrogance overplays their hand.
Habitat: Cliffs and plains amplify their sounds—hatchlings chirp in hollows, adults roar from heights, drawing poachers or Riders.
Diet: Calls aid hunts—adults shriek to scatter prey, fledglings warble in clumsy pursuits.
Social Nature: Highly social, their vocalizations knit flocks—hatchlings coo for bonding, adults roar for hierarchy. Loneliness mutes them, a fatal quiet.
Cultural/Ecological Role In Asteria, their calls define their mystique—hatchlings’ trills charm, fledglings’ awkward cries amuse, adults’ deafening roars awe or terrify. Elders’ bellows are omens, shaking the gates during rebirths. Poachers track metallic echoes, Riders hunt shrill rogues—lonely Swifts’ silence haunts tales of lost glory. Ecologically, roars regulate territory—rarer Elder calls signal a fragile cycle, their absence thinning Swift ranks.
Golden Solaris Swifts (Sub-Variant)
Rarer, resplendent sub-variants with golden scales and larger stature, radiating wisdom and arrogance beyond their kin.
Biology Size Progression and Life Cycle: Hatchlings: Golden bat-sized (6-12 inches) or bird-sized (1-2 feet) specks, reborn radiant.
Fledglings: Small-horse size (~4-5 feet tall, 8-10 feet long).
Adults: Over 30 feet long, ~50-60-foot wingspan.
Elders: Rarest, 53 meters long, 59-70-meter wingspan, 9 meters tall—their golden flame and roars a fading legend. Elder scarcity risks their lineage.
Vocalizations: Hatchlings: Chirps, coos, warbles, trills, and shrill shrieks—brighter and sharper than their kin’s, with a golden resonance like tinkling bells. Shrill shrieks carry a regal edge, demanding notice.
Fledglings: Awkward hybrids—metallic trills clash with chirpy shrieks, coos gain a haughty ring. Their calls deepen with a golden undertone, clumsy yet imperious.
Adults/Elders: Shrill, metallic roars with a richer, golden timbre—deafening and majestic, like a gong struck mid-storm. Adults command awe, Elders shatter silence with earth-rumbling authority, their rarity amplifying their mythos.
Main Causes of Death: Poaching: Golden scales and grander horns draw elite hunters—their resonant roars betray their roosts.
Rider-Paired Solaris Swift: Rare, targeting disruptive Goldens—their golden roars summon fatal kin.
Loneliness: Adoration fuels them—silent Goldens fade, their calls a lifeline lost.
No Elder for Rebirth: Golden Elders’ scarcity dooms many—unheard roars mark their end.
Abilities Fire-Breathing: Golden flames match their calls—hatchlings flicker, adults blaze, Elders burn with rebirth’s might, their roars a prelude.
Flight: Calls enhance their presence—fledglings trill mid-flight, adults roar in soaring arcs.
Physical Combat: Roars stun foes—Elders’ bellows pair with crushing blows, a rare terror.
Behavior Temperament: Stubborn: Hatchlings shriek for notice, adults roar through peril—Elder hunts are a regal quest.
Irritable: Golden shrieks snap at rivals, fledglings warble in pique—loneliness turns roars inward.
Vain: Calls are a crown—adults bellow to bask in echoes, hatchlings trill for praise.
Arrogant: Their timbre claims the skies—fledglings’ awkward cries still demand respect.
Above Others: Roars assert royalty—silence from loneliness or Elder absence wounds deepest.
Intelligence: Reborn cunning shapes their calls—adults roar strategically, hatchlings coo for allies, vanity amplifying their reach.
Habitat: Grand roosts echo their golden calls—poachers follow, loneliness quiets their splendor.
Diet: Regal hunts pair with roars—adults bellow to flush prey, fledglings trill in pursuit.
Social Nature: Crave kin or Rider attention—golden coos beg bonds, silence signals doom.
Cultural/Ecological Role In Asteria, Golden calls are divine—hatchlings’ trills enchant, fledglings’ clumsy cries amuse, adults’ golden roars inspire epics. Elders’ rare bellows herald rebirth—or its failure, a mournful silence. Poachers hunt their resonance, Riders quell their chaos—lonely Goldens’ fading calls fuel tragic lore. Ecologically, their roars mark territory—Elder scarcity and death thin their regal reign.
Detailed Integration of Vocalizations Hatchlings: Their varied calls—chirps, coos, warbles, trills, shrieks—reflect a social infancy, bonding with clutchmates or crying for attention. Shrill shrieks ward off threats, a tiny echo of their future might.
Fledglings: Awkward transitions mirror their growth—metallic hints in trills or shrieks show potential, but the clumsiness betrays youth. Social calls strengthen, yet irritability shines through.
Adults/Elders: Shrill, metallic roars are weapons and declarations—adults signal dominance or distress, Elders amplify this into a deafening force, their rarity making each call a legend. Golden Swifts add a richer timbre, a sonic crown.
Death Ties: Poaching: Roars draw hunters—Elders’ bellows are a fatal lure.
Riders: Problem Swifts’ shrieks summon their end.
Loneliness: Muted calls mark despair—social silence kills.
Elder Absence: Unanswered roars at Asteria’s gates echo their doom.
