This is probably the strangest day of his life.
That’s definitely counting the day Dustin entered his life. That did flip his world upside down, for the better of course but still. Point stands, Dustin was the biggest surprise and he thought that that was going to be the only thing to change his life.
But really, he should’ve known his kid would bring more changes to his life. Because turns out, a lot of turns and twists was going to happen to him.
Much like right now and it’s turning out to be very exciting plot twist.
“So? You gonna do it?”
Steve shakes his head, blinks and blinks before looking back at Dustin. Who’s smiling huge and hopping in place like a puppy, hugging the book close to his chest.
He looks back at the bed, at the person laying there under the covers. Wires and machines around them, beeping and humming. It’s a stark sight compared to what he’s seen in the book.
“Dustin, are you sure about this?” He says instead of answering, “just, we can get kicked out and sued if I do it”
Dustin rolls his eyes, “I’m positive, don’t you feel anything? You’re so close together, you gotta be feeling a pull”
There was a sudden shift the closer they got here, even more so when he came to a stop at the door. But he thought it was just from being in the hospital.
“I guess” he sighs and closes his eyes before breathing deep and taking the last few steps and looks down at the pale face along with the wild curls.
Steve leans down, bringing a hand to brush the curls away and presses his lips to the other’s lips. It’s seems a little simple for the feeling that urges through him.
It brings twin gasps, nearly knocks him down and suddenly everything is clicking so much faster now.
There’s joyful excitement coming from behind him and breathless laughter in front of him, that it takes him a moment to even comprehend what just happened, because “holy shit, Dusty, you were right”
“I told you!”
The laughter in front of him gets louder and Steve looks at them, “Took you long enough, Charming.”
It brings a smile to his face, the nickname especially brings a rush of excitement to race through him. “Still the same old cheeky captain, Eds”
Eddie grins at him, “of course, my love, always for you”
They smile at each other another moment before Steve leans back down to kiss Eddie properly, it’s just as magical. Eddie brings up his hand to his face and Steve holds his own against it, pressing their foreheads together to catch their breath.
“So, you gonna thank me for being right?”
Steve doesn’t have to turn around to know what Dustin’s face look like. He can already see the smug expression, but he refuses to acknowledge it.
He’s back with his true love, his Eddie, and he’s going to focus on him instead of letting their kid gloat about this.
