Solas Appreciation Week 2025
Day 1 Prompt: Fade
I missed this prompt and don't have anything new but here's In Consultation With Spirits in case anyone hasn't read it. Takes place during DAI and stars angsty Solas talking to spirits about his feelings for Lavellan. Here's a snippet:
“I…” For the second time this day he finds himself at a loss. The answer is obvious. He will rectify his mistake, save the People, make things as they were. Yet he finds himself hesitating as a pair of green eyes invades his mind.
“I find myself less certain of my course of action,” he admits. That is why he has come after all, to seek wisdom.
“You are not usually uncertain, Pride. Once you have decided, it is difficult for anyone, including me, to dissuade you.”
He closes his eyes, lets out a breath he has not realized he was holding. “There is a woman,” he says, slowly. “A woman of this world. She is unlike the others. She is … real.”
He opens his eyes, gazes at Wisdom, hoping it can convince him he is wrong, that Theneras is not, in fact, real.
“I see.” The spirit looks at him, contemplatively. “If she is real, then others in the waking world may also be real. If that is true, your plan to tear down the Veil saves your people at the expense of hers.”
As always, Wisdom has cut to the heart of the matter. If he allows himself to give in to his desires, he will eventually have to choose between his people and hers. If she is real, choosing his people will make him a monster. He is tired of being a monster.
“Do you love her?” Wisdom’s many eyes gaze at him with something approaching compassion.
He hangs his head and whispers, “Not yet, but it is possible. We shared a kiss, now I can think of little else.”
