Gale x Durge Cold, Death, and the Maiden

To me, Solas burning Mythal’s vallaslin from his face is symbolic of him trying to free himself from a spiritual wound by harming the physical vessel he never originally wanted.

It's the burn part too that I always get fixated on - the rage of it, trying to violently sever the attachment that helped turn Wisdom into the Dread Wolf. But because he does it through pain and rage rather than healing and acceptance, that one act is like a symbol of an even greater pattern in his ancient life - that his body is a battlefield, a weapon.

Wisdom pulled from the Fade to become a Weapon - a weapon against Titans, a weapon to make weapons of great power - a weapon against Elgar'nan. Mythal in her own words says this. "I used your wisdom as a weapon - and it broke you."

And that bodily sacrifice is through his whole life - he throws himself body first into things. While he's free in Minrathous he's front and centre in fighting off the tendrils, helping the Shadow Dragons. He doesn't hesitate throwing himself at Lusacan. In Disrupt and Conquer he get's injured by Elgar'nan because HE throws himself at Elgar'nan - Solas always leads from the front - what else does a weapon do? Even the Dread Wolf is a tool of the rebellion - a tool to inspire, to sway, to create fear in the hearts of the enemies.

And it continues right until the very end, as he binds himself to the veil or if he's forced against his will - the culmination of that body, his body, once again as a tool to enforce an outcome. At least if it's his choice there is an element of him knowing that his very existence has been detrimental to so many others over his ancient life. And perhaps now in this one choice, his first act of atonement is to now use his body as a means of protection - which ironically is exactly who the Dread Wolf started out to be in the rebellion - a protector.

🔹 WHAT’S A SMALL GAME DETAIL THAT YOU ALWAYS NOTICE AND LOVE?

I love the way the devs animate faces and use body language in Inquisition. My favorite scenes are Crestwood where you can see Solas changing his mind about telling the Inquisitor the truth about himself by the subtle way his face changes. In Trespasser when a romanced Inquisitor moves toward him, he steps back. He knows if she touches him, he will give up everything for her and can’t risk it. It’s a masterful use of show don’t tell. I also love the flirting lines they give Solas because he is so confident when using them. You would expect this hobo apostate to blush and stammer but he takes control and leaves Inky speechless most of the time.

🔹 WHAT’S ONE PIECE OF REFERENCE MATERIAL YOU’RE CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

Right now, it’s Celtic myth and the occupation of Wales by the Romans. Most people focus on England, but Wales has a very interesting history with Rome. The Welsh bardic tradition is also fascinating.

My current project is chapter three of His Love, His Heart, His Home. It’s not going well. I have major writer’s block, and work isn’t helping because our clients are requiring us to write for AI optimization and I just don’t want to write anything after that. I have written a little bit so here is a snippet.

As they moved toward the center, she was reminded of another walk. Another silence. Then it had been companionable. Two people who needed no words to express how they felt. Two people who knew each other completely.

This silence was awkward, composed of his guilt and her frustration. A wall that separated them even as they tried to navigate around it, over it and through it. Who would be first to breach the quiet? Even as she thought it, she wondered what it would mean for the person who did.

🔹 WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO CREATING OR FINISHING SOON?

I would love to finish my current WIP. I’m not good at having several WIPs going at the same time so not being able to finish is frustrating. I have a lot of ideas for other works that I can’t get to until I finish this. As far as creation goes, I have a book idea, and I want to spend more time on it.

🔹 WHAT’S A FUN OR SILLY TRADITION YOU HAVE WITH YOUR OCs?

I don’t think I have any. My OCs are very pragmatic. I think my favorite thing to do is put them and their LIs in a situation that is very awkward. One of my Solas fics takes place in a bathhouse. My OC Theneras is imagining what Solas might look like naked and then he shows up naked to use the bath house.

🔹 WHAT’S AN NPC YOU’D LOVE TO SEE IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OUTFIT OR SETTING?

I’m not much for AUs but I would love to see one set in the 1950s where Solas is a beatnick and artist fighting against the system.

🔹 WHAT IS A COLLAB PROJECT THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO DO?

I would enjoy doing some sort of exchange – a story for a piece of art that sort of thing but I am not confident about my writing and don’t think my OCs are interesting enough for that sort of collaboration.

🔹 WHAT’S A TINY HEADCANON OR DETAIL YOU’VE ADDED TO YOUR OC THAT BRINGS YOU JOY?

That Theneras is the least Dalish elf you are ever going to meet. It’s not that she doesn’t honor her people or isn’t proud of where she comes from, she just thinks the Dalish are too mired in their traditions. She enjoys searching old ruins to find ancient artifacts that tell a different story than the prevailing one. (Probably has to do with my own background as an archaeologist when I was younger.) She enjoys talking to Solas because his stories match what she believes about the past.

🔹 WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT YOUR FOLLOWERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I don’t have anyone outside of Tumblr and Discord I can talk to about Dragon Age. I’m an older gamer and most women my age don’t game. They think I’m weird. I can talk to men sometimes, but they mostly play Call of Duty or sports games. My husband doesn’t game although he’s happy I have a hobby. So, I’m grateful to have this community.

Family: Tadeous was adopted by The Llewyrr elves of Synnoria on the Moonshae Island of Gwynneth (also known as Sarifal). She grew up in the secret valley which is protected by a powerful mass illusion spell. Her adoptive mother is a member of the Knights of Synnoria. Her father is a mage at the court of Most Serene Matriarch, Ate'Niah. Tadeous learned how to wield a sword from her mother and sling spells from her father.

Birthplace: Unknown. Tadeous was found as a toddler on the outskirts of the forest of Winterglen by her adoptive mother. Winterglen was often the scene of military action due to the the corrupting presence of Citadel Umbra in the south where the Feywild met the Shadowfell. The ruling leShay noble Eladrin often called upon the Knights of Synnoria to assist them during conflicts with dark fey. Tadeous' half-elf presence there was confusing as Sarifal's leader, High Lady Ordalf had long ago banished humans from the island. It was rare for any half elves to be on the island much less any fraternization between elves and humans that would result in a child.

Job: Tadeous is a bard - the most famous bard on the Swordcoast. She was claimed by Waterdeep early in her career, and if any city could be said to be her home it the City of Splendors. She is an accomplished musician who can play any instrument but prefers her harp, a magical instrument inscribed with ancient Elven runes. She picked up her first instrument when she was five. Her teachers were not human, rather she learned from the various singing waterfalls surrounding the ancient city of Chrysalis. They were said to sing songs of such heart-wrenching beauty that they could enrapture humans. She left home when she was 14 to enter a bardic competition on the island of Alaron where she caught the attention of a mysterious benefactor who continued her musical education. At the age of 18 she found herself in Waterdeep where her ethereal music and singing captured the hearts of Waterdhavians and catapulted her to fame.

Phobias/Fears:

Her greatest fear is of being unable to help people. She will put herself in extremely dangerous situations to keep people safe - sometimes even her enemies.

Hobbies:

Music a hobby and career. She loves finding an instrument she has never played before and learning how it works. She also loves books, especially books about magic. She often jokes that if she hadn't picked up the harp she would have picked up the wand.

I've had this idea in my head for a long time.

Gale, standing at the edge of camp with a book he isn't reading, his eyes somewhere they probably shouldn't be. Trying to be decent about it. Giving space because he genuinely believes that's the kindest thing he can offer — that what he feels is his to carry, not anyone else's to be burdened with. He's not hiding it to protect himself. He's hiding it to protect her...

...he stands apart from the others, a book open in his hand — ostensibly. The page hasn't turned in an hour. The same sentence sits there, patient and ignored: "The stars above Waterdeep are not the same stars that shine on lesser cities." He'd found it mildly offensive the first time he read it. He hasn't read it since. His eyes lift from the page with a frequency that could not, by any reasonable measure, be described as casual. They find her. They always find her. He looks back down. Counts to something. Looks up again.

The book is a prop at this point, and a poorly deployed one...

Let’s just say it wasn’t a good night for Maeve and Gale. She was so upset about what she tried to do that she reverted back to her Winter season.

I always save Isabel before Scleratis shows his creepy face, so I dont get that cut scene until after the Nightsong is free but this is the first time he’s shown up on the Moonrise Towers bridge before we go kick Kethric’s ass.

2026/6/25 Today's drawing.

I really love the scene where they walk through that cave in Crestwood.

Up until then, their relationship had only been shown to us in fragments, but in that moment, I felt like I could finally see what they were like together.

At first—maybe partly because of the dialogue choices I picked—I thought of them as a very mature couple. Even if they looked at each other enough for other people to notice, I imagined their relationship as something polite, restrained, and carefully kept at a certain distance.

But when I saw this scene, my heart just squeezed.

They’re holding hands. That alone made me go “aaaah!” But not only that—they’re holding hands and swinging them a little as they walk.

It made me so happy, because I thought, “Oh… I thought they were such a calm, composed couple, but they really, truly are lovers.”

And Solas’s expression here is so gentle. I remember thinking, “So he can look like this, too.”

That was when I, very foolishly, became completely convinced that they would be all right. That they would be happy.

…Well. I’ll leave my reaction to what happened afterward to your imagination.

sometimes i still think about how the dragon age series was about all sort of ways slavery kept existing and the different shapes it took and how deeply engrained into society this type of exploitment is, culmunating with it's future antagonist being a radical anti-slavery person who talked about all the things he saw being as slavery and that he would see the world be freed of, only for the fourth game to refuse to acknowledge slavery, to call the anti-slavery crusade the character had "a failure so why should he try it again", to have a slaver order around said character who was implied to have been her slave as the good ending, where we were deep into slave societies only to be told slavery was something only extremists were doing, and then when asked about it the devs just went "everyone knows slavery is bad we didn't need to talk about it" making people sound like some sort of perverts for wanting to see slavery be actually acknowledged on screen..... still the stupidity of all time.

I will say this time & time again Solas always takes responsibility for his actions. He knows the extent of what he has done & knows the only suitable sentence is death. He’s a troubled freedom fighter who can’t stand any race being enslaved, loathes all Gods & putting them up on pedestals. I get so confused like why am I being told things Solas would never say or do because it contradicts every about him in Inquisition, Trespasser, & Tevinter Nights. My bad for liking a mortally grey antagonist who is complex and confusing but also rants about freeing slaves of all races & yelling don’t put Gods on pedestals because they’re all terrible, cruel and bad.

I'm so excited! @kindheartgale gifted me this portrait of Tadeous my sarcastic, flirty, wizard loving bard and she is gorgeous! I really love seeing her this way. I commissioned @kindheartgale to create the scene of her and Gale's first kiss which I can't wait to see (and share) but I couldn't wait to share this. So my Durge has been playing the field… she danced with Wyll, heard Astarion’s confession (she appreciated his attempts to manipulate her) and spent an evening in the Weave with Gale. After spending time at Moonrise where everyone seems to know her (and fear her a bit) she’s come to the conclusion she was evil. The question is - does she give her heart to someone sweet like Wyll, someone who probably understands her Urge like Astarion or someone who once defied his goddess? (Because she’s pretty sure she once worshipped Bhaal). Who does she want to be?

Maeve spent the night with Gale and -well - it must be love since she changed seasons. Not sure how well traversing the Shadow Cursed Lands will go now that she is in her Spring season. Then there is the issue of her Urge. Her butler really wants her to kill that little moon cleric at Last Light.
