I love “All New, Faded for Her” quest much in its tragic simplicity of mirroring Solas’s tragic origin story. And when Solas says to the Kirkwall mages: “You made it (wisdom spirit) kill, you twisted it against its purpose (Pride Demon)” he’s yelling about how his friend was abused for simply wishing to help and being bound to serve, corrupted by being turned into a weapon to protect the mages from the bandits. It’s exactly what happened to Solas himself and how he came to be, except there was nobody there to free him so it leads to so many grave mistakes. And when he grants his spirit friend its’ last wish, after it thanks Solas for answering its cries for help & freeing them from their corrupt fate. It’s all Solas wants, too when you think about it, but he’ll be stubborn & fix his grave mistake but then free himself …except he’s scared to die alone, but die he must…he wants it and he knows it’s the only fitting end for what he has done. That’s the true mercy.
It’s all there in the lore, in the dialogue and in the figures we meet along the journey as Inky. Solas doesn’t need a hug, he needs to be free just like his spirit friend, and that freedom comes from death…maybe he’ll return to the Fade as a spirit of wisdom or maybe he’ll fade into nothingness…either way that’s what he wants, that’s his end game whether the Veil comes down or not, “there is only death on this journey” as he tells Inky in Trespasser.
Also side note: love the quest name All New, Faded for Her is an anagram for “Dread Wolf, Fen’Harel”
