Spined Soldier Bug (Podisus maculiventris), taken April 29, 2026, in Georgia, US

A shy soldier bug watching me warily as I descend upon it for pictures! This individual originally tried to move to a side of the fence post it was sitting on that I couldn't photograph it from, so I had to use my hand to gently encourage it to come back to its original position. It worked pretty well since stink bugs and their relatives can be pretty reluctant fliers. Unlike stink bugs, however, soldier bugs are not herbivores, instead preying on small insects and being considered a beneficial garden insect due to their preference for eating Mexican Bean Beetles, an agricultural pest. I left this guy to it, and it likely went on to catch a delicious meal!

#2251 - Cermatulus nasalis - Brown Soldier Bug

A Predatory Shield Bug (Pentatomidae, Asopinae) native to Australia and New Zealand. This one is a nymph, but all instars past the first stalk and prey upon soft-bodied insects like caterpillars. I did see one stalking a moth once, though.

-Ladybug and Bridgette!bug have a relationship similar to Miles Morales and Peter B Parker. Bridgette is in a slump and Marinette pulls her out of it. (Granted not as bad as Peter B. Parker) 

-Scarlet Scarab and Chat noir butt heads a lot during the au, Scarlet Scarab trying to be patient and understanding. (Because he knows this is how he would have acted back then if he thought someone was making a move on the girl he liked)

-Scarlet Scarab does finally get along with Chat noir when he explains he has a girl he likes back home.

-Noirbug and Soldierbug talking about how many Nazi’s they’ve punched.

-Soldier bug dispensing advice to Bridgette. Bridgette ignores it because her plan b involved giving her a gun.

-Soldier bug and Ladyham having some sort of hammer space, Ladyham for cartoonish weapons, Soldier bug for guns and bombs.

- Ladyham is actually a ladybug with a pig Kwami.

What do the other bugs think of the canon bug?

Bridgette/Mom bug/ Older Ladybug: Thinks of Marinette as a cute niece. She thinks Marinette is naive but has a good heart. She wishes her luck on her finding love. Acts protective of her, a mentor to the the young bug.

Scarlet Scarab: This Ladybug reminds him so much of his Minou noir. Except that she is more calm and less reckless in situations. She seems to be nervous around him. He thinks She is a smart girl. He was surprised to learn that she didn’t know her partner’s identity yet, It cleared up so many issues that he and his partner had. But its not his place to tell her.

Soldier bug: She thinks she is a spunky little rookie. The kid has spunk and reminds her of the girls that she tries to inspire back home. Soldier bug is tough on the canon bug because she knows Marinette can do better.

Ladyham/Pigbug: This girl is a sweetheart, She has a good head on her shoulders. Very similar to how spider ham saw Miles Morales. Ladyham being a bit cartoonish.

Noirbug: A bit too bright eyed and peppy for her taste. She can be smart. She clearly hasn’t seen the big picture about how her partner is the guy she is into. But that isn’t her business. Noirbug has canon bug pegged. Noirbug does start to like her near the end, thinking she is a good egg.
