Oftentimes, the cards’ warnings were vague. They could see every outcome, though their master could only experience one. It was ultimately up to Twisted Fate to determine whether they trembled in fear or excitement; whether they twitched from agitation or out of insistence, and to act accordingly. This, however, was different: the cards ached, and Twisted Fate couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t until the stench of death filled his nostrils, followed by the sweet scent of perfume, that he realized what the cards saw.
Who they saw.
A subtle flick of his wrist, and the Card Master had armed himself with an ace varnished in gold. He stopped mid-gait and took two steps to the side, brandishing his weapon out where he had originally stood. When he felt the playing card lightly press against something soft and supple, a low chuckle escaped him.
“You should know better than t’try an’ sneak up on me, sweetheart.”
