Solid Action - Message From A Loner
CHAMPS wrangles our hearts anew with not one, but two new songs as the Isle of Wight brothers make a splendid return after a long absence. It’s been almost four long years since we fell head over heels for CHAMPS’ sophomore album Vamala, and the duo are finally preparing to release their next project, an EP entitled The Hard Interchange, this spring. CHAMPS has been busy immersing themselves in the London music scene putting the final touches on their new music, where they met and ultimately collaborated with American producer Sean Oakley. Lead single Solid Action, whose video can be viewed above, speaks of the first time that Michael from CHAMPS witnessed someone injecting heroin. He recalls that moment in an underground club in Berlin during one of the band’s early tours as done with jovial determination and control, or a very “solid action”. He says, “‘the nonchalance really affected me.” Solid Action is a steady chugging effusion of CHAMPS’ very unique style of alt pop, laced with a robust strut and willowy synths. Douglas Firs, below, is the EP’s second track, and a more meditative paced, cloister strolling hymnal. Both songs exhibit the same singular harmonies and raspy drawl that first drew us to CHAMPS. You can stream CHAMPS’ new music and their earlier releases on Spotify, here.
