So I’ve been thinking a bit about how Ardyn and Somnus’ relationship would differ if they weren’t related, and honestly the answer seems to be. “Way better than they would in canon. Cause Izunia is just like, a dude that married his ally. He isn’t a threat, isn’t infected with Deamons, and isn’t also in line for the throne so like. Everything that made canon Ardyn someone Somnus would attack isn’t there? Plus, Izunia as an ally can get contacts and do things that the warriors and nobles in his retinue can’t, the perks of being a career criminal I suppose. So their relationship basically develops from indifference, to allies, to friends after years of working together. But of course, do to Ardyn’s joy of annoying people that does lead to an almost sibling like relationship like above.
