(Thrupence / Jack Vanzet) Stumbled upon an old iPhone note where I was figuring out 'Hakea'. There's a softness to it that feels more heartfelt than the final version. It's almost inaudible at times, yet the authenticity shines through. Feels like I'm perpetually striving to retain this natural quality in the finished track. Almost makes me want to release a record of voice memo's. The spontaneity and innocence of the recording is there. Sometimes the final recording that lands on DSP's is just an attempt to replicate the magic that was already present in the phone memo. Fascinating to revisit the initial versions of a song once it's been out there, living it's own life.
