This is yours truly, playing my solo-piano transcription of the Pink Floyd tune “Brain Damage”. I recorded this in 1998 at a small studio in Houston. I laid down about 30 tracks over eight hours in that session, on a small Baldwin Baby Grand.
I’ve played piano by ear since I was able to sit upright on the piano stool and reach the keys, about 1964-65. I would run to the piano and play what I had just heard on the radio, the latest Supremes tune, Herman’s Hermits, etc. My hands just do what they do.
I’ve never taken lessons, can’t read music, lines and dots don’t mean music to me, but somehow I came up with my own way of transcribing an entire arrangement and distilling it into a single piano piece as a kid...I can play just about any genre, from classic rock to classical and jazz. I’ll be posting more tracks here.
Enjoy!
