I love Duke and everytime I see him in fics depicted as theis fumbling, shy new hero, that idolizes the whole batfam I wanna scream

Like fist of all ☝️ he has a family. Bruce is not his papa, who he needs cuddles and attention from. He loves his parents, don't take that from him

Second, I feel idolizing anyone from the batfam goes against his whole characters. Respect, yeah, but idolize? Have they read We Are Robin (prolly not)

Third people need to realize that this guys values his community more than the respect of the heros he is apparently such a fan of. He wouldn't be starstruck with all the fancy shit the batfam has gone through, if anything, he would reapect what they do for Gotham. Bruce Wayne building shelters for Gotham will earn Duke's respect more than fighting rogue so and so.

Sorry, I love to ramble about Duke and your blog is one of the few where I see him not being put into this weird boy, so I needed the make some noise

Aw thank you so much!!! This is definitely basically just a Duke & Cass blog (DC stands for Duke & Cass comics!!!) I love them sooo much and I'm happy to talk with so many other people who love them too!! And HEAVY agree on the idolisation. I think Duke as a whole is not prone to idolising people, especially after he became disillusioned with Batman, but it's also that he already idolises his parents. Doug and Elaine are his shining role models and every inch of him wants to emulate them, nobody else comes close!!!

Also starstruck/shocked Duke is one of my leasttt fav fanon tropes of him it just feels inauthentic. Like at his core Duke is an extremely adaptable person, see how (as a child!!) he adapted to Zero Year, how he took care of himself after his parents disappeared, etc.; Duke is a character who needs control & agency at all times. He wouldn't let himself be overwhelmed by a new situation!! Not that he wouldn't be shocked, but he'd try his hardest to adapt. The 'improvise. adapt. overcome' meme is Duke to a T!!!
