1958 Solyto The long-lived motorcycle builders, New Map in Lyon, ventured into small vehicle manufacturing before WWII with a miniature roadster powered by Fichtel & Sachs. Immediately after the Occupation, they continued to offer the same vehicle, now powered by Ydral, as the Rolux and built for them by the Societe Rolux, until 1952. That same year saw the introduction of a tiny three-wheeled utility vehicle, closely related to the Rolux and intended as a stylish, practical alternative to the scooter-based Vespa and Lambretta "triporteurs" with their handlebars and open cabs. A proper round steering wheel turned the front fork directly and on it was mounted the familiar 125cc blower-cooled Ydral motor. It was started with a kick lever, and the displacement allowed the little truck to be driven without a license. 200 kg was the load capacity, although the indicated top speed of 50 kph probably meant that it was not fully loaded. The charming little truck served its purpose admirably well, being perfectly suited to the character of the rural French farmer and businessman.
