Kuro by Somato
One of my favorite manga finally got an official English release! It's by a mangaka called Somato; some of you may be familiar with their more popular work, Shadows House, that became an anime. Kuro was their first work. Kuro is only 3 volumes long and the official English release is an omnibus.
Anyway, Kuro is about a young girl named Coco and her pet cat Kuro (which means “Black” in Japanese). They live together in a large mansion on the outskirts of town. The story details their day-to-day life and their interactions with friends from town. However darker things hide in the background, with monsters prowling in the forest, Coco's mysterious background, and Kuro being no ordinary cat…
Kuro is a genre-blending manga, mixing cuteness and heartwarming moments with gothic horror and a deep sense of mystery. As the series goes on, the darker elements are slowly pulled to the foreground, although the loving relationship between Coco and Kuro keeps things from getting too sinister.
If you're looking for a manga to read, I highly recommend picking this one up! The art alone, which is rendered in full color unlike most manga, is a treat.
