Sombant - Dance Before Doom
Sombat Boonngamanong was caught in Chonburi province east of Bangkok late on Thursday, traced via the Internet network he was using, said Major General Pisit Pao-in, of the Information and Communication Technology Ministry. "Soldiers and police were informed of the IP address used by Sombat to post comments so we searched a house in Chonburi and found Sombat there. He is now with the army at an army base in Chonburi," Pisit told Reuters. "The case is now with the army and it will investigate and decide how to proceed next." The military has cracked down hard on pro-democracy dissidents and supporters of ousted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra since it took power last month. Source: Reuters
By Aukkarapon Niyomyat BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's security forces have tracked down and detained a prominent activist who helped organise protests against last month's military coup from comments he posted on the Internet, officials said on Friday. Sombat Boonngamanong was caught in Chonburi province east of Bangkok late on Thursday, traced via the Internet network he was using, said Major General Pisit Pao-in, head of a technology crime division at the Information and Communication Technology Ministry. Just arrived in Bangkok this morning at around 7 am and I've checked into my Awesome hostel The City @ Fifty (former Madee). It was a bit far from Moe Chet North bus station so it took me 2 hours or so to get here via city bus, BTS skyline tram, and finally motorcycle taxi. This place has a modern look to it with reasonably new furnishings. I know this because many things are still wrapped in plastic like the seat cushion I'm sitting on, my closet doors, and my power outlets haha. The hostel has 6 floors each of which provide strong wifi connection, provides a free luggage storage up to 7 days, lockers, laundry service (although pricey at 110 B (approx $2.60) wash/dry) and the best part: a rooftop pool! Whooo! I LOVE my life! I chose to splurge at 350 B (approx. $11.60) a night here in Bangkok since I wanted a private room to study in and a hostel on the green BTS line straight to the Maneeya Center where I'll be taking my exam. Its also in an area thats not so touristy, that way I won't be distracted by all the cool sites that around!
And thats not all! Last night I took an overnight bus from Chiang Mai with Sombat Tours company. I suggest this company to ANYONE choosing to travel by bus here in Thailand - it was AMAZING. My coworker had suggested this company to me but last Saturday I hadn't booked in advanced and arrived an hour before departure. Needless to say, they were sold out. Arriving in Chiang Mai Sunday morning in a standard quality bus I caught from Bangkok at 660 B, I decided to buy an advanced ticket back to Bangkok for Wednesday at 563B with Sombat Tours. I am sooo happy with this company. First of all, these buses are kept in great condition with like-new reclining chairs complete with reclining foots rests. Showed a few Thai music videos and The Voice Thailand's version. Provided neck pillows and blankets (which the other bus did too but these pillows were better). Gave out an apricot juice box, bottled water, and a 2 snack buns at the beginning of the trip. Showed a short clip of the company's history and values (found it interesting). Mid trip there was a rest stop which our ticket included a meal voucher!! Really good food too - a choice between noodle soup, or rice with 2 entrees. I chose the latter. Some sort of bamboo stirfry and some curry. Exchanged comments with the lady next to me "Arroi maaak" (very delicious). Afterwords, there were refreshing towellettes, tea service. And then in the morning there was a coffee and tea service. SOO awesome. And for 100 B less than what I paid before. When I arrived at my hostel and the receptionist told me about the rooftop pool, my life was complete. I felt as if I was on cloud nine. Gosh, life can't get much better than this! WHOO hahha
