The Harrington siblings ⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢
Hiiiii, hopefully you all enjoy this. Technically this isn’t chapter one cause of the last 2 post but I saw this as you actually being involved in the story now instead of you being background character. This chapter includes max! (My girl I love her) she might seem ooc, sorry if she does 💔 ALSO! You guys are able to choose which costume you get to pick in the story. Why did I choose between those two? I dunno, as usual, fem reader, probably a lot of spelling errors, and I think that’s it, hope you all enjoy this!

Chapter 1
Almost a year had passed since the night Steve tried to apologize to Jonathan only to end up in whatever monster climbing out of the ceiling fiasco, Steve has tried to go back to his normal life, and for the most part it was working. He got Nancy back, ditched Tommy and carol (more like they ditched him but never mind) and not to mention he’s been spending more time with you! Well..spending wouldn’t be the right word, perhaps more protective. The first few weeks he seemed very cautious whenever you tried to go out after sunset, offering you more rides or just saying no to you leaving. His excuse? ‘My job as your brother to make sure you’re safe’ right. Totally believable. After Christmas he seemed to relax, now instead of worrying about some creature climbing out of his ceiling he has to worry about finals and papers…yay!
You sat in Mr. Clarke’s class, half-listening as he rambled on about the human brain, billions of cells, endless connections, blah blah blah. Pancakes sound good right now..anyways. Just as he began comparing neurons to highways, the classroom door creaked open. Mr. Coleman, the principal, stepped in, followed closely by a girl you’d never seen before.
“Ah this must be the new student!” Mr Clarke smiled, Mr. Coleman nodded his head. “I’ll leave her to you,” he said before leaving. The girl was already making her way to the empty seat which was coincidentally next to you, but Mr. Clarke cleared his throat, stopping her in her tracks. “Why don’t you come stand up front for a moment,” he said, already grinning.
“Dustin,” Mr. Clarke added, “drum roll. Dustin snapped his book shut and tapped his hands against it, filling the room with uneven beats. A few students snickered. “Class,” Mr. Clarke announced, “please welcome, straight from sunny California. the newest passenger on our curiosity voyage, Maxine.”
“It’s Max.”
“Sorry?” Mr. Clarke blinked.
“Nobody calls me Maxine,” she said flatly. “It’s Max.” Mr. Clarke chuckled. “Ah, well then’ welcome aboard, Max.” With an annoyed look already settling on her face, Max walked down the aisle and dropped into the seat beside you. You turned slightly, catching her gaze just as she looked over.
“Hi,” you whispered, just loud enough to be heard, offering a polite smile. She gave a small nod in return, then turned toward the window, watching the sunlight spill across the glass as if she’d rather be anywhere else.
Algebra always felt longer after lunch. You sat in your usual seat, flipping through your neatly color-coded notes while the classroom slowly filled with restless chatter. Your teacher was late. again. Five, maybe ten minutes past the bell, like he had the right for extra time
You were checking one last written pages when a chair scraped softly against the floor. Someone pulled it out and sat across from you.
You looked up to find Max.
“Hi again,” you said, offering a small smile and a brief wave.
“Hey,” she replied, barely above a mumble. Definitely not a talker.
Silence settled between you two before she finally broke it. “So..is this teacher always late?” She questioned. “Oh totally,” you rolled your eyes. “He says it’s only right cause he’s been teaching here for so long, but when I come in late with a pass it’s ’unacceptable’.” You scoffed, watching how the corner of her mouth twitched. You took that as a sign to keep talking. “So..California,” you stared “must’ve been a long trip hm?”
She gave a short nod.
“Any cute surfers?”
“What?” Max blinks, caught off guard on your question. You gave a light laugh “I mean, you must’ve lived close to beaches right? Or at least visited a few times?” You smiled. Max let out a small scoff, leaning back against the chair and crossing her arms. “Yea but I didn’t go to the beach a lot, more into skating”
“Shame,” you sighed playfully. “I didn’t expect you to be into surfers.” She raised an eyebrow. “I’m not, well not that I know of, but you can’t blame a girl for being interested” you grinned. “Well trust me,” she begins “all the ones I did see were try hards. Half of them got wiped out within 5 seconds” she said which got a laugh out of you. “I’m y/n by the way” you smiled, holding your hand out. The girl hesitated before shaking it. “And you know mine”
“So..how is it here?” She asked. “Boring as hell,” you huffed “there’s not a lot that happens here” you shrugged. “So a ghost town basically?” She questioned to which you nod your head. “I mean, there’s the arcade, movies, the occasional parties when someone’s parents aren’t home” you listed. “So I assume you go to a lot of these parties?” She questioned. “Eh, depends. They’re more of my brothers thing though” you answered which got you a small hum from the redhead.
The girl was studying you now. I mean, she had no idea why she was even talking to you in the first place. She isn’t one for making friends, especially girls like you. Who were too put together. Girls who spent who know how long with doing their hair. Who always had their nails shape and painted. Who outfits were clearly planned instead of thrown together. Girls who had people gravitated towards them. Who had boys to close to comfort.
Her jaw tightened slightly. For all she knew, this. All of this. Was just some nice girl act. You didn’t actually care about what she said? All you wanted was for her to open up so you can find something personal to use against her. She knew the types of girls who looked act acted like you. And max was no fool to fall into that trick-
“Vampire or angel?”
“What?” Max glances up at you confused. “Costume,” you clarified. “I dunno which to choose”. Max studied you like she was trying to figure out if this was some trick question. “Why are you asking me this?” She raised an eyebrow. You shrugged casually “just curious” her eyes flicked over to your outfit. “Do you have anything that counts as..vampiric? Gothic?” She questioned. “Well no..but I thought It’d be fun” you answered. Max took a good look at you again, trying to imagine how you’d look with dark eyeliner, a gothic look in general. “I dunno,” she murmured.
You hummed softly “I’ll probably chose by the end of the night” you said before tilting your head. “What about you? Got a costume yet?” You asked. “No, I was thinking of getting a mask, maybe Michael Myers’s” she answered. You smiled, “that’s a good one! If you wanna get the good kind of candy i suggest going to the rich neighborhoods, they are loaded every year” you suggested, she nodded. “I’ll keep that in mind,” you hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “Well..if you want, we can hang out together for Halloween?” You suggested. Max paused, thinking over it. “I’ll think about it,” she replied, a small smirk on her face. Somehow, that felt like a yes.
