- It will establish a bias that anyone in the crew can yell at her.

I feel like Marcus wouldn't have felt comfortable if his white man boss or Richie hadn't yelled at her. I said what I said.

ABUSE:

- it will establish as a viewer that that type of behaviour is ok ( done to black girl/woman,knowing Syd in the fandom is already hated, yikes) and that Carmen as a character is full of it because he hated being yelled at and the abuse in the culinary industry.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

- It will establish that accountability wasn't a theme which would be weird about a show that dabbles mental health, grief, growth, passion and food. All themes that one extreme or another would lack result without accountability.

Basically, Carm would continue the circle of abuse.

spicy moment of discourse from me, apologies

re: plagiarism in general, one thing that super bothers me is the inability for people to grow & learn from the experience.

with the exception of last weekend, which in retrospect i think i also should have handled privately, i have previously addressed instances of plagiarism in private in hopes that the person will realize they've hurt someone but will have the opportunity to do better without any public fallout because as we know all too well, it can get unnecessarily heated on here.

but honestly i've yet to see anyone do so. people get super mean back, or block and vague about it instead, insisting they were just playing with similar themes, when in every instance that i choose to broach this with someone i can prove passage-by-passage or word-for-word copying. because i think you can play with similar ideas for sure, but when it gets more specific than that, like down to the line-level, there's a problem.

idk. i probably shouldn't ruminate on this too much, but this is like the number one most discouraging thing for me at the moment. i just wonder what is satisfying about telling a story that they know at its core is not theirs in the first place. and i wonder why when approached about it, people choose to buckle down and get mean when they're the ones who hurt someone in the first place.

Personally, I love when people online or in real life try saying that racism only seems prevalent because of the spread of technology and media and what have you, because then I get to just sit there and have every outright or underhanded racist thing I've had to endure just play through my head on a nice lil loop. "It's not institutionalized." Right, so my high school teacher my Sophomore year who sat down the class during the Floyd protests to explain that "blacks are just more violent" was, what? A fluke? Baby, her and her students only called me by the state I came to Florida from, and they would look right at me, no matter where they were, whenever they said something that might "offend a snowflake." I sat in that class, silent as a mouse, for an entire school year, and then I kept silent when those same kids started acting up in my other classes too. Until it felt like I'd swallowed handfuls of sand in a school full of malicious, painted-faced clowns shoveling more onto my desk and then all I could do was beg my father to move back North where it's a bit more covert than all that went down there. But Southern charm is everything, right? The only thing worth talking about when it comes to the South, right? Well bless your heart. That's not even my first nor last run-in with continuous, daily racism. But like the netizens love to claim: racism just seems prevalent because of the media.

i wonder if the reason so many people who have been abused or experienced cruelty from parental figures etc relate to azula more than zuko bc, like azula, no one did save them, or offer them unconditional support or chances to escape from the person who hurt them.

maybe so many of us see her chained up on that grate crying her heart out and utterly alone and relate. maybe we never had an iroh or an aang. so we can only hope azula does find peace and ways to grow and heal bc we want that for ourselves
