it's a miracle you don't crumple to the ground the moment you step over the threshold into your home.
the lights are dimmed in the living room, and a wonderful smell wafts from the kitchen and a few clinks sound off before your husband turns the corner of the foyer, soft smile on his face as he comes to greet you.
"welcome home, baby." wonwoo's voice is deep, sending shivers down your spine in the best way possible as you smile tiredly, slipping your shoes off and letting wonwoo take your coat and bag. "hi, won."
"how was work?" he asks absentmindedly, hanging up (his) your coat and work bag in the closet before taking you in for a quick hug, breath brushing against your temple before he kisses it. "i missed you."
smiling, you sigh heavily, letting your hands flatten against wonwoo's sculpted back as he rubs yours softly, hands ghosting over your dress shirt as you fight back a giggle.
"work was tough," you say once you pull away, letting wonwoo push your hair away from your face as his thumb gently brushes over your moving lips. "a coworker was moved to a different department so now i have to take over their workload until they're replaced."
wonwoo's eyes sharpen slightly in annoyance at your workplace's terrible habit of deferring all of their problems to you, but he doesn't say anything, grabbing your hand instead and tugging you into the kitchen.
the smell of steak and vegetables—your favorite after-work combination—fills your nose the moment you step in front of the stove, and your heart bubbles with contentment at the same time your stomach rumbles with unchecked hunger.
wonwoo grins, pulling you closer to him with his hand on your waist. he takes a spoon, scooping a little of the steak's sauce onto it as he gently guides it to your mouth.
"mmm, won. this tastes amazing." you hum happily, cheeks starting to hurt from your wide smile. he pecks your cheek, just happy to see you ready to eat. "i'm glad. you look like you need some decompression time."
"how'd you know?" you ask dryly, moving to pull plates out of the cabinet before wonwoo tugs you back to him, grip tight on your waist as he speaks.
"no. let me do it."
the finality in his voice makes you flush, but you speak anyways. "won, you've already cooked me dinner. at least let me get some plates—"
"no, baby. you just go to the table. i'll take care of the rest. let me finish what i started, okay?" wonwoo's gentle in the way he refuses you, cupping your cheek before softly bringing your lips to his. "i can do this myself. all i need you to do is to relax for me."
unable to respond without flushing an even darker red, you give in, shuffling to the dining room table as wonwoo starts to finish up in the kitchen.
after a few minutes of struggling to stay awake at the dining table, wonwoo comes in with a plate in each hand. his white button-up is slightly unbuttoned at the top from his work in the kitchen, and his glasses are perched on the bridge of his nose as he smiles. "here you are."
he serves you like a professional, plate gorgeous as always before he hands you a spoon and fork. wonwoo gets himself situated too, nodding to you. "try it."
hungry and half-awake, you happily take the command, taking a piece of steak and vegetable to your mouth as you grin seconds later. "just as i said—absolutely amazing."
when wonwoo chuckles, it's a lighthearted sound, and he brings his glass of water to his lips as he grins. "good. made it with you in mind."
you roll your eyes at wonwoo's rare attempt at flirting, but blush nevertheless as you continue to eat. he's attentive to every bite you take, secretly swooning when you excitedly rant about all the flavor the dish carries. wonwoo thinks its adorable, seeing your eyes light up when you take another bite.
"someone's getting a little sleepy," wonwoo teases, noticing the way your eyes start to droop and your movements slow. doing your best to deny it, you shake your head, taking a half-bite of a carrot.
"no, no, i just..." your eyes feel so heavy, but you do your best to keep them open, shuffling to the edge of your seat as you sigh. "just thinking about work and what i need to do tomorrow."
wonwoo stands up suddenly, forsaking his plate to walk around to your side of the table and push your plate away. "that's it. we're getting you to bed."
"won, i'm fine. i promise." you mumble, almost slumping against wonwoo before he gets the memo. he then scoops you up into his arms without a second thought, cradling you to his broad chest as he carries you to your shared bedroom.
"you are going to bed. we can finish dinner together later." wonwoo says with a soft tone of finality, and you're too spent to even argue, snuggling into his chest a little more before he sets you down on the soft sheets.
you're grinning tiredly when your head hits your pillow just right, and the smell of wonwoo blankets you when he slips your work pants off and puts his sweatpants on you in return.
a warm fuzzy blanket covers your already warming body seconds later, and he's brushing hair from your forehead, kissing it as he runs a finger down your jawline.
"rest, baby. i'll talk to you when you wake up." wonwoo's deep voice is only above a whisper now, and you wave sleepily at him, eyes falling shut before you can even catch one more glimpse of your sweet husband.
