'Mr. Sullivan was killed yesterday in an accident downtown.'
Alvin Schwartz, from "Something Was Wrong"
If you haven't listened to the podcast "Something Was Wrong", you're missing out. The first episode starts with the host saying that she's never heard another story like this. Within a couple minutes, I knew that I had--and so has anyone who's at all familiar with Andy's history. I should note, though, that if you've ever been in any kind of relationship with someone like that, it's likely to be very triggering.
NB: I'm only on episode 4, so I can't speak to any other stories the podcast might delve into after the first one ends.
I know I've been dipping in and out of some healing content lately, but I've been listening to the podcast Something Was Wrong lately after a friend's recommendation, and I think it's a really great resource especially for people who are healing from trauma (albeit old or new) or those who are empathetic and potentially more susceptible to trauma and abusive relationships.
It does deal with potentially triggering content, as they do discuss discovery, trauma and recovery from abusive relationships, so be mindful that if you are interested. The episodes are often on particular topics, so you can kind of pick and choose which episodes might be of interest. I don’t listen in order unless I’m listening to one particular story that extends over several episodes. The host gives a trigger warning at the beginning of the episode if it applies as well. I do recommend being somewhat sound when listening so you’re not giving yourself a blow to the knee when you’re already down.
It's available on apple podcasts and spotify for free. I definitely recommend it if you're in a place of uncertainty or even if you just want to educate yourself on signs and situations of abuse. I just want to pass the info along, especially if you're struggling with making sense of a situation or you find healing through listening to other’s stories to validate your own feelings. Several of the interviews over the seasons are with licensed professionals and they do offer insight on dealing with situations, including how to approach a friend or family member who may be trapped in an abusive relationship.
It’s a good resource and especially insightful for recognizing patterns in behavior. Just wanted to pass on because you may never know who the info may help 💜
Day 2 of readings from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark! This one is called “Something Was Wrong.”
If you’ve got a story you’d really like to hear, let me know!

worst part about hypervigilance is when it's proven right
