A little break from the A-Z challenge today for another #somethingcompletelydifferent Sunday! . Yesterday I attended the arts festival run by the University of Groningen, where I was part of a group of PhD students who were demonstrating what it is we do in the archaeology department. Our "Archaeo food truck" dealt with how people processed food in the past (and the leftovers, which was where I came in), and was alongside a selection of real food trucks to entice the public. It was a very successful day! . The aim of the festival was to demonstrate just how important the arts are, and how varied our research is. Recently there have been major cuts in funding for the humanities, and so this festival acted as a kind of protest against the assumption that humanities subjects don't require the same amount of financial resources as the so-called "hard sciences". All of us who were present use expensive equipment or methodologies as the central part of our research, from microscopic investigation to lipid analysis to biometrics. Not all "arts" research can be done inside a library! . #humanities #arts #letterenfestival #Groningen @universityofgroningen #archaeology #Archaeologist #phd #phdlife https://www.instagram.com/p/B2bs9J-CyxZ/?igshid=pignp7spl2ut
