Peter Parker, named that both because of the safety of his identity and because his actual surname would be some unnecessarily long form of (L/N)-Rogers-Stark, was approximately two seconds away from turning towards Flash and kicking him in the gut.
The consequences would be harsh, but seeing the asshole fly into the nearest classroom wall and hopefully crack a bone or two would be enough to justify said consequences. Peter had hardly even turned around though, when the teacher called his name.
“You have been called to the reception desk, Mr. Parker. Don’t keep your visitor waiting,” The teacher nodded to the door and Peter sighed a little.
Flash should’ve really been thanking the mystery visitor, because with all of the crap that had been going on in Peter’s life, God knows he would’ve gone through with assaulting the boy. With that thought in mind, the fifteen year old shuffled out of class and towards the reception desk.
As soon as Peter realized who his visitor was, he was running towards them at full speed. When (Y/N)’s son (fifteen years old with superhero powers, mind you) gathered her into his arms and pulled her off her feet, all she could do was hold on.
Usually, seeing his mother would not warrant such a reaction from Peter (especially since he was a teenager and becoming both increasingly difficult and decreasingly affectionate).
However, (Y/N) (L/N) had spent the last month and a half on a highly dangerous mission, on which she had gotten so severely injured that she had been bedridden and in SHIELD’s care for the past two weeks.
As soon as Steve and Tony had heard of their wife’s injuries, they had tried to get to her (and almost ripped SHIELD apart while trying to do it). They were deterred, but only when the doctors taking care of (Y/N) told them that staying in [redacted] was the best thing for her health.
As for Steve and Tony going to wherever the hell their wife was, Fury assured the men that not even he knew where his agents were, because of the nature of the operation. The worried superheroes continued to search for ways to meet their beloved, but had to realize eventually that they were not going to see (Y/N) until she came back home.
With this realization came a particularly trying time for the family, and to say that (Y/N)’s boys had desperately awaited her safe return would be the understatement of the century. So, all in all, Peter Parker’s reaction to seeing his mother that day was entirely expected and wholeheartedly received by the woman herself.
“Hi Petey-Bear,” was what (Y/N) chose to say to her son as soon as he had set her down.
The embarrassing as all hell nickname was so typically his mother that Peter actually cried a little. Not one for missing anything, (Y/N) kissed away the few rogue tears that had escaped her son’s eyes.
“Hey Mama-Bear,” was what the boy managed to say, making his mother laugh softly and shake her head at him.
Finally gaining a little clarity, Peter stepped back from his mother’s embrace (also known as the most comforting place to be, but tough teen Peter Parker won’t be caught dead saying that). He assessed his mother overall and took note of all her visible injuries; broken right leg, a deep cut on her forearm and bruises scattered all over.
“If you’re done with your assessment, Doctor Parker, can we go home? I haven’t seen either of my husbands in eight weeks and I don’t want those idiots to forget what I look like,” (Y/N) said jokingly as she rolled her eyes at her son’s calculating stare.
“Wait, you haven’t met Dad or Pops yet?” Peter inquired.
“Nope, had to make sure my actual baby was alright before I dealt with those two.” She said before placing her hand on Peter’s shoulder in order to get the weight off her bad leg.
The two got into the car with minimum difficulty and instructed the driver to take them home. (Y/N) hobbled out of the car once they reached and smiled at the sight that greeted her- she was finally home.
“Good afternoon Young Sir, Mrs. (L/N). It’s very good to have you back. Sir is currently pacing in the living room, awaiting you.” JARVIS informed the mother and son duo as soon as they walked into the premises of the house, making (Y/N) smile and thank the AI.
“Miss me, lovie?” She said as she walked into the kitchen and couldn’t help but laugh when Tony immediately swept her off her feet; like father like son, she supposed.
The next ten minutes were wholly occupied with incoherent mumblings between teary kisses as Tony and (Y/N) tried to make themselves believe that whatever was happening was real; that they were real. Eventually though, (Y/N)’s mind cleared up enough for her to ask the real question.
“Love, where’s Steve?” Her question dimmed the smile on her husband’s face in so minuscule a way that it was almost unintelligible, but (Y/N) caught on.
“Is he running late from work or something?” She asked Tony again, almost feeling her heart sinking lower as each second passed.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart. He- he was sad and angry that you were hurt, and- and gone and that we couldn’t help you. So, he took up a mission even though I told him you might come back today and that he might not be back until now. He was angry at everything that happened, I suppose.” (Y/N) didn’t quite know how to feel- on one hand, she understood how traumatic it must have been for her husbands to know that she was hurt, and away somewhere they couldn’t reach her, but on the other hand, she was just hurt that Steve wasn’t there to meet her when she did come home.
Did she really mean so little to him? When (Y/N) looked up into Tony’s warm eyes though, she saw the hurt there. In taking up that mission, Steve hadn’t just hurt her, he had hurt Tony too. Because during a time when Tony needed him the most, his husband was out on some arbitrary SHIELD mission.
“I’m sorry you had to go through this alone, Tones. He can be so stupid sometimes.” (Y/N) shook her head, upset and hurt with how poorly Steve handled the situation.
“No, no- it’s okay. I couldn’t care less about him leaving me, I’m just mad at him for missing your coming back home. He’s an asshole.” It was so clear that there was no bite to his words that she let out a little laugh before pulling him in for a hug.
“Pops isn’t here? How could he do that? It’s been two months since we’ve seen Mom, and he doesn’t even have the decency to show up?” Peter scoffed, having found his way back to the kitchen after changing and having accidentally listened to a part his parents’ conversation.
“Peter, don’t talk about your father like that.” (Y/N) said softly, even though her words were firm; no matter Steve’s actions, Peter wasn’t allowed to disrespect his parents.
“Your Mom’s right honey. Plus, this just means the three of us can watch trashy reality TV without your Pops complaining about it.” Tony, not wanting his wife’s homecoming to turn sour, pointed out.
“I just realized I haven’t watched TV in more than a month. This calls for a binge!” Peter rolled his eyes at his parents’ attempts at changing the topic, but smiled at his mother’s enthusiasm nevertheless.
Family binges were definitely a tradition Peter had missed over the course of the past months- him and his fathers would still sit down together and watch something, but it simply didn’t feel right. Not without his Mom.
The three made quick work of collecting their favorite bingeing snacks before settling down in their living room sofa. (Y/N) chose to sit in Tony’s lap with her feet placed in Peter’s- a position that wouldn’t have worked if not for the gigantic sofa that was reserved for family binges.
It was like this that the small family spent most of their evening, only finally getting up because it was dinnertime and Peter was hungry. That night, after Peter had went to bed, was when Tony and (Y/N) actually began to feel the absence of their husband.
“This stupidly huge bed looks so big without him,” (Y/N) puffed out as she plopped down beside her husband.
“I know. When that big oaf is here, he takes up most of the space. In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have married such a space-occupying person. He’s huge.” Tony grumbled in reply, making (Y/N) snicker.
“Sorry to be the one to say it, love, but I think him being ‘huge’ is part of why we did marry that lug.” (Y/N)’s habit of finding a sexual innuendo in every situation sparked up again, making Tony laugh alongside her at the implication.
Choosing to end the day of their reunion on a good note, he leaned in to kiss (Y/N).
“We’ll be fine, sweetheart. We’ll make him work before even thinking of accepting his apology when he comes back. And he will be back with us- before you can even miss him.” It was with that promise that (Y/N) finally allowed herself to fall asleep, wrapped up in the arms of one lover and dreaming about her other.
The next day, (Y/N) woke to an empty bed; surprising, because Tony was usually the one out of the three of them to get as many kisses as he could out of the sleepy morning-after haze. (Tony Stark was, after all, a big advocate of morning sex, and not ashamed of the fact either.)
So when (Y/N) wasn’t immediately assaulted with her husband’s lips in the morning, it was quite unexpected. When she heard voices coming from outside the room, she sleepily walked towards them.
“-can’t just pull a dick move like that and then show up here, expecting (Y/N) to be okay with that. She doesn’t say much; you know her, but you really hurt her by not being there for her yesterday.” Tony’s voice drifted through the house, making (Y/N) sigh.
At least this meant Steve was back home safe.
“You hurt me too, when you left me alone.” Tony said, almost as an afterthought, his voice soft.
“I know, I’m so sorry, Tones. I was mad and selfish and I forgot that you and Peter needed me to be here with you. I really am sorry, for everything.” Hearing Steve’s voice after all that time was like taking a deep breath after being underwater for too long.
Still, his actions weren’t going to be forgiven so easily.
“You know what, Pops? You’re always on my case about making sure the people you love know that they’re loved or supporting them and whatnot, but you didn’t even care enough to stay here with us when Mom was hurt. You don’t get to see her.” Peter, ever the emotive kid that he was, said as he jabbed a finger at Steve.
“Thank you, Peter, but you dont have to speak on my behalf, baby. I’ll be in the room if anyone has anything to say to me.” (Y/N) said when she reached to where her family was before turning on her heel and making her way back to the room, arms crossed.
Her boys followed her, all three looking at her for further instruction once they were in the room and (Y/N) had settled down on the bed.
“Well? Any of you have anything to say to me?” She questioned. Obediently, Steve stepped forward and fell to his knees in front of where (Y/N) sat on the bed.
“I know that I messed up really bad when I wasn’t there for you yesterday, and I regret not being here so much. I want you to know how guilty I feel for leaving Tony and Peter alone to deal with all this, and then- God.” Steve held his face in his hands, clearly very sorry for whatever he did, but (Y/N) just looked at him with teary eyes.
“I know. I was just so worried about you, and angry about the situation we were in, and I couldn’t bear to be home when you weren’t here. It was just too hard. Please, please, forgive me. I’m so sorry, doll.” Steve looked up into (Y/N)’s eyes, carefully picking up her hand from her lap and pressing a soft kiss to it before touching it to his eyes.
“I hadn’t seen you in two months, Steve. I just wanted you to be there for me when I came home from a mission like that. That’s all I wanted.” (Y/N) told him, her words drawing a few tears out of Steve as well.
Peter noticed that it was a weirdly soft gesture, done carefully; almost like it was a sacred ritual, like it was meaningful. Immediately after Steve kissed his mother’s hand, (Y/N) gave him a watery smile and then leaned forward to gather him in her arms.
Tony joined in the embrace, pulling Steve onto the bed before beckoning Peter over as well- it was officially a family huddle. The family was wrapped around each other like they were each the petals of a rose, curling around each other delicately.
Neither of them had felt that complete, incessant sense of peace and love in a while. All their hearts felt so full that they almost felt them bursting from the happiness contained within.
Later, Tony lead Peter to the kitchen to make breakfast- leaving Steve and (Y/N) alone.
“I think it’s best if they spend a little time alone right now.” Tony explained with a soft smile to Peter, who nodded understandingly in reply.
As the father and son duo set about the kitchen making the infamous ‘(L/N)-Rogers-Stark’ waffles for breakfast, Peter allowed his curiousness to get the best of him.
“Dad, can I ask you a question? It’s a bit weird,” His son’s request had Tony raising his eyebrows, but he motioned for him to go on nonetheless.
“While he was apologizing, Pops did a thing. He kissed Mom’s hand and then touched it to his eyes? What was that about?”
“Why do you assume it’s a thing, that there’s something more to the gesture?” Tony questioned his son, almost bemusedly.
“W-well, because it looked like it was a ‘thing’. I mean, the way Pops looked at Mom while he was doing it, it was- meaningful, I think.” Peter struggled through his words as he tried to explain what he saw to his Dad.
“Good observational skills, Peteroo. Nat would be proud. And to answer your question, pressing someone's hands against your eye like that is an ultimate sign of respect- it’s almost a reverent gesture. For your Mom, Pops, and I- doing that means ‘I love you impossibly much, and I’m genuinely sorry for what I did, so please forgive me.’ It’s like a Get Out Of Jail Free Card for whenever your mother is mad at Steve or me. Whenever either of us do it, your mother has to forgive us. Get it now?” Tony explains the meaning behind the small gesture to Peter, his face lighting up with a smile when he begins to reminisce about all the previous times the ‘hand-eye-kiss’ had come into play in his relationship with Steve and (Y/N).
“That’s . . . actually really sweet. You guys are nauseatingly cute even as parents.” Peter tried to play off how adorable he thought his parents were. The truth was, though, that Peter could outwardly scoff all he wanted at his parents’ cheesy actions, but inwardly, he had always hoped to be able to find something like that somewhere down the line.
“Thanks, oh dear, dear son of mine. Now can we focus on the waffles?” Tony asked his son when he felt his stomach rumble a little.
“Wait, though. If you do the ‘hand-eye-kiss’ thing then Mom has to forgive you? You think I can get in on that action? I mean, I could really use something like that; Mom gets mad at me a lot.” Peter grimaced jokingly, though he was serious about wanting to use this newly discovered Get Out Of Jail Card.
“Yes, fine, you can do our little ‘hand-eye-kiss’ thing. But don’t abuse the power!” Tony warned his son, wagging a finger at him. “Dad, no promises I’m afraid. Sorry,” Peter shrugged and then shot off towards his parents’ room with a cheeky laugh before Tony could catch him and slap him upside the head.
In that moment, things truly could not have been better for Peter (L/N)-Rogers-Stark Parker and he was thankful for that.
