The Monk dipped his head, brow furrowing behind the scarlet wraps to his face. There wasn’t much to particularly listen for, in truth. No sound of a stance threatened him openly, so the snap of his attention wasn’t confrontational. Confused, if anything. He pointed towards the young man with great accuracy, turning an ear to him as he said,
“You. Your spirit tells me a tale I have never heard before. What magic is this?” A momentary pause took him, “In fact, the first question should be are you aware of it?”

“I ask this boy to do one single chore. The one chore that I specifically tell Pearl to back off of because he needs to have a some sort of structure and a good work life balance... and what does he do?” Rose muttering to herself as she continues picking up pieces of clothing sprawled out on his bedroom floor.
She lets out a sigh, “Steven decides to cash in his teen rebel chip and blow it off to spend time at the movies with Connie...” She sighed, she’s happy that Steven’s having more of a social life than she had gotten growing up, but she’s unhappy that he skipped out on doing the laundry. She heads out of his room with the laundry hamper full of Steven’s clothing, fully intending on sitting in the living room to make a grand reveal that she’s been expecting him to give him a stern motherly talking to about responsibility, and have him do the laundry.
It was a beautiful day. Then again, most days were beautiful, now that it was safe to come above ground again. The birds were singing, the sun was shining and warm, and the grass tickled their legs.
The young child was picking flowers for their Mama Touri when a gentle, almost curious, sounding huff distracted them. Looking around to see where the noise came from, they soon met eyes with a bright pink lion.
Abandoning their white and yellow bouquet, they made their way over to the creature, offering him the back of their hand. After a moment, the big cat rubbed against it, seemingly content.
Their giggling laughter pealing like bells, the child hugged the cat, snuggling into his fluffy mane as the lion nuzzled them in return.
They were so engrossed in their new friend that they almost didn’t hear the footsteps of the teenage boy behind them. Their smile was bright on their face as they began to sign at the new arrival, making a saluting gesture with one hand, the other still holding onto the cat.
Hello!
Not sure if the boy could understand them, however, they simply waved as well.

It was absolutely no secret that Lyra was absolutely strung out. To say the past year had been difficult would have been an understatement. A few days before the new year she had finished writing and recording her new album- the first one she worked on entirely alone. She did the vocals, she did the guitar, drums, bass, hell she even tried editing before a friend physically stopped her from doing so and helped her hire someone to do that part. She was an adult, she could do things herself. She wanted... she had to prove that. To herself, to her father... everyone. Was it lonely? Exhausting? Taxing in more ways than one and made her want to rip out her hair on multiple occasions? Yes. ... what was she thinking again?
Ah. Right. Independancy... Well, her line of work didnt... usually entail that to this extreme extent. Artists big and small have found great success being solo acts and managers but... when she cut ties with her father? ... she essentially jumped without a parachute. Sure she knew the basics and how to perform and play all these things but she didnt have what he had. The people. The know-how... so. She would just have to learn it all herself. ... with admittedly some intervention from some artist friends. She hates to admitt it but not even she could do all the things required to do a cross country tour all alone. Minus the crew setting things up of course.
But if all that stress had been just an appetizer, this was the main course dinner. 2 nights and 1 day before the show and her opening act called to emergency cancel on her. Lyras heart almost stopped. Infact maybe it had, who was to say. She doesnt even remember what they had told her- the blood rushing in her ears was far too loud. Panic set in. She hadn't had a panic attack this bad in... a few years... one or two? ... maybe it wasnt that long ago but it had been progress! Lyra begged and pleaded over the phone; "I'll double what I'm offering you- I'll even find someone to cover for your missing guy!" She had offered them. Through her panic, she tried to remain cordial. Growing up with her father; himself business shrewd had seemed to rub off on her and shine in times like this.
The longer the conversation went on the longer it devolved. It didnt make any sense... they kept contradicting themselves and restating the obvious, giving indirect answers- ... someone must've bought them out. She couldnt help but point fingers at her father's company. His idea or no, she had been their best client. They wanted her to fail.
With a scowl, lyra hung up. Raking a hand through her hair, she got up and began to pace. She needed an opening act, she had a set schedule... there couldnt just be dead silence. She had no other songs planned to perform. Not to mention she'd potentially lose the audience with all that nothingness.
Biting the inside of her mouth in thought, Lyra stared aimlessly out the window... that was it. She was on the west coast, near California and all those places where people come to make it big! There had to be tons of people just clamoring for their chance on stage! Oh! And, she could even get brownie points for supporting an unknown artist. Boom. The perfect plan.
With haste, Lyra grabbed her phone once more and ran to the door, slipping on her shoes and grabbing her keys and purse; still a bit shakey from her panic attack from earlier, lyra had to remember to stop... and breathe. Driving while still anxious as she was might not be the best idea. Biting the inside of her mouth again in thought, she just stood there for a moment longer. It wasnt the best idea... but it was the fastest one. But... just in case... Lyra grabbed a pair of gloves from the table next to the door. When she was this stressed she tended to get... what's the word... worked up? It was just better to have them and not need them. She didnt want to accidentally hurt something or someone if she was still anxious by the time she found her replacement opening act.
So, with that, lyra exited the upscale hotel and went down to her car. It was the west coast, home of dreamers... all she had to do was drive with her windows down. It couldnt be that hard to find an opening act... right?
Lyra... didnt have a good feeling about this, driving out of the hotel parking lot and out onto the street towards the beach.
Steven didn’t understand. They’d brought new gem artifacts back with them on the Warp Pad so many times before, but it had never done this.
One minute he was with Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, and the next, the artifact was glowing, and he was falling out of the night sky, headed right for a car pulled over on the side of a lonely-looking road he didn’t recognize. Bracing himself, he managed to bounce off of the hood of the car, landing flat on his back on a nearby bush.
Raising his now-aching head to look at the car, he immediately noticed it was his dad’s precious Dondai, with a figure in the driver’s seat, and his face immediately lit up.
“Dad! Dad! Over here!“ The young boy raised his voice and started to wave, trying to get the attention of the person. “It’s me, Steven! I’m really sorry about the car, I’ll help you buff it out, I promise! I--”
When the person in the car turned around, though, Steven gasped, grinning, raising his hands to his mouth in excitement.
“Oh my gosh,” he breathed. “You’re me!“
