What can be Sonikku’s actual sexual orientation and identity?
It is a bit confusing actually, since he has attachment moments with both genders in all different medias. Though, it can be said that being Sonic straight is very low because
First, he never reciprocates one of his female friends in the games and recent medias like in TailsTube Christmas episode and Joypolis Birthday videos, which is being one-sided relationship is still valid today. There are examples for these like rejecting her marriage proposes in SA2 and stating only that Sonic sees Emmy as a friend in Japanese Takeover 24/06/2022.
Even Mr. Hoshino gave a final conclusion between Sonic and Emmy in Sonic Boom 2013-Part 2/3-Q&A Session video stating that it was supposed to be an endless chase between them, which is valid today, since Emmy states that she still chases Sonic after in Joypolis Birthday 2025 and even her official description from Sonic Channel states she chases Sonic after.
Second, despite having attachment moments with female characters in AoStH version, he also had a kiss and flirty moments with his arch-nemesis even he was crossdressing but it can be said there are very tiny SonEggman moments too in AoStH and which is another very low possibility being Sonic straight, since he can also be flirty and can kiss to male characters like Doctor Eggman.
And third, past employees stated once, canon girlfriend will not work for Sonic because he cannot slow nor lock himself into a relationship for a girlfriend, so this must be the reason why they removed Madonna, who was Sonikku’s “was supposed to be” the first love interest, (though, Idk they removed her before first Sonic game released) and which means, he never been portrayed as a het hedgehog.
As for Amy Rose, I have exactly no idea why they did not remove her but what I know is (if I am not wrong), fans complained there are no female characters in Sonic games, so this might be the reason why Emmy appeared after CD and based on Japanese culture, so the Japanese female Sonic fans would like her like being aggressive and demanding Sonic to go on date with her, which happens in SatBK game, though I am not Japanese nor know much about Japanese culture, so I apologise if I could be wrong about this.
These are the reasons why being Sonic straight is very low, but in the past creators like Mr. Ohshima stated, (which I think he said this before SxS 2021 Calender Story was made) “Sonic does not matter whether it is a girl or boy, but he is not interested getting in a relationship” (said something like that but I cannot remember much), so I would like to say Sonic’s actual sexuality could be between bi or pan according to Ohshima, but the problem is that he is not working at SEGA, so if he was still working at SEGA, maybe what he said would be valid today but there are tiny bit conflict situations because in my opinion, Sonic’s actual sexual orientation and identity could be what his official statue is wearing from National Museum in the first image and there are reasons why.
Firstly, this official “canon” from the first image was taken a photo around 2010s, which was before Sonic held a rainbow flag along his friends, Sonic x Shadow Calendar Story was made and Sonic held a birthday card with blue-pink-white colours on another column wallpaper.
This column wallpaper from Sonic Channel on the above is made for June, which is Sonic’s birthday month and his official birthday is in Pride month, so it could mean that the birthday card is made for celebrating his birthday and pride month, and must be the reason why the birthday card is coloured with blue-pink-white colours, which is also logic being Sonic’s actual sexual identity is what he is holding a birthday card with blue-pink-white colours because unlike his hedgehog male friends, Sonic does not have a fur on his chest and does not have blue quills on his arms, which includes Emmy, since she does not have a fur chest and pink quills on her arms either.
As for his official statue wearing a rainbow flag though, if I do not include all past cartoons (like AoStH and SATAM), other medias like idw, archive (which was more like a fan-fiction and non-official to original Japanese version) and recent games English version like Frontiers, SxSG and CrossWorlds since Sonic West’s character portrayzation does not reflect to Japan Sonic’s character portrayzation.
Sonic had never attached to his female friends in the games and Amy Rose is one of the examples as I mentioned on the above, but he attached to his male friends like Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog.
In Frontiers, Sonic had a teasing moment with Knuckles, which can be said there was a SonKnux moment in this game since he was flirty with him and I personally believe there was or used to have something much more between them before Shadow and Rouge came into their lives, but unfortunately there is no proof for that since it is not confirmed whether Sonic and Knuckles had something much more between them before SA and SA2, though except the teasing moments between them in Frontiers, which could be that Knuckles still feels something much more for Sonic, however, what I said is only a fan interpretation not officially confirmed (yet?), and as for Sonic, I don’t think Sonic feels something much more for Knuckles when he was teasing with him, but I can definitely say that Sonic’s habit of teasing with Knuckles is not changed. So, even Sonikku does not feel something much more for Knuckles anymore, he just teases him anyway,
As for Shadow the hedgehog, Sonic had attachment moments with him in different medias like in Prime, where he says “I ❤️ you too” and in Joypolis Birthday 2024, where he eats the black curry rice omelette on Shadow’s plate and also says “talk about the ultimate cuteness” in JB 2025, which I cannot remember he ever ate someone’s food or said such nice and sweet things to anyone before.
There are also attachment moments in Sonic x Shadow Calender Story, which this story explains there is something much more between them and have subtle hints in this story's title and explanation part.
This story’s title “A rare relationship where you can get close to someone” describes an emotionally intimate and resonant connection, which refers to a bond that someone feels safe enough to drop their emotional walls, allowing for true vulnerability, mutual trust, and being embraced for their authentic self. So, this means Shadow and Sonic have mutual trust since they feel safe when they were close to each other.
The other phrase "get close to each other" explanation states that it is a developing deeper and more interpersonal bond, which signifies to moving past superficial interactions to build a foundation of trust, understanding, and mutual affection.
As a result, the intimate relationship is going on between Sonikku and Shadow, since they are the only ones can get up personal close to each other.

This phrase on the above confirms that Shadow has feelings for Sonikku in a special and rare way, since there are times he allows Sonic to reach Shadow’s heart, which means Shadow has an intimacy trust and deep emotional level towards Sonikku.
(This draw is made by me btw. Tried to look like a moon and an ark, not a great draw though but okay.) This phenomenon in the sky which mentions in this story, inspired by Tanabata since this Calendar Story was made for July but released in June, at the end of Pride month and five days after Sonikku’s birthday in Sonic Channel.
Tanabata is about two star lovers from Milky Way, Altair and Vega, who meet each other on Milky Way’s bridge on the 7th month of the 7th night, so the moon and ARK are representing the star lovers and the bridge from Tanabata story is reflecting the Mission Street.
When Sonic and Shadow stopped on the Mission Street, Sonic points out to the ARK at first to remind Shadow that they had great adventures back in SA2 and then points himself out through the moon, since Sonikku’s official birthday is on June 23 which is the week of Cancer and cancer’s zodiac planet is the Moon and Shadow’s birthplace is in ARK Colony.
This is how this story confirms Sonic has feelings for Shadow when he pointed out the two dignified moons in the sky at first then himself through the moon and states he feels something much more for him ever since in SA2 to remind the adventures back in the ARK.
So, it can be said that Sonikku made a love confession in a non-verbal way when he pointed out the ARK to Shadow at first, then pointed out himself through the Moon in this story.
He also had teasing moments with Shadow in Prime in S2 Ep2 and TSR, though I cannot remember much about this game, so I will take a look again but I can definitely confirm there was a mutual flirtatious moment between Sonikku and Shadow in CrossWorlds Japanese version.
And the thing with Princess Elise in StH06, it can be said that Elise was the one attached to him and felt something much more towards him, not Sonic actually except being nice and respectful with her, besides he is also respectful and saves his friends with bridal carrying.
I know he got kissed by Elise while he was unconscious but just because he got kissed by a girl does not mean he cannot be gay, Tchaikovsky, Wilde and Mercury had also a very tiny bit similar situations, I mean not exactly but a tiny bit similar.
Years later, Sonic states he could not remember Elise in the last Takeover, which is too weird because he did not look like he could not remember her in the last scene of StH06, perhaps SEGA has plans for remaking this game? Only Mr. Nakamura (who designed Silver the Hedgehog) wishes to remake StH06, but Idk much anything besides this. Let’s see what future plans SEGA has for Sonic games?
Also, Shadow's head canon is not exactly easy to say but he could be between gay/demiboy/demi, since it very highly likely he is only into Sonikku, and lets Sonic to enter Shadow's heart even it is not frequent, also he was first appeared around June 19, 20 and 22 on Pride month.
Sonadow was mentioned in Sonic Forces Takeover before SxS Calendar Story was released and confirming their mutual feelings, so I think what Sonic’s official statue wearing a rainbow and blue-pink-white flags for LGBTQ+ support could also be a highly hint.
So this is why I assume Sonic's actual highly head canon could be transgender and gay (for now).
