You know since the prologue is done now, I was looking back on some of it and just wanted to show my favorite parts that were fun for me to draw lol. Might do this with the next chapter too!

Ok, new AU, Sonic Genesis. It gives characters more fleshed out backstories, has its own timeline and series of events, and sometimes even unique designs.

I'll start off with generic world building and then get into character specifics later!

Mobians and Chao — Mobians are closely related to Chao and, when born, are basically like Chao that grow up into Mobians. Chao can speak, but not all do. Mobians are born from eggs and are usually abandoned by their parents. Mobians live primarily on islands due to the lack of natural predators. Mobians who grew up on continents usually live in cities and are near Chao gardens due to that being where they were raised. The way Chao copy abilities from those they interact with is how Mobians subspecies developed.

Chaos Energy — All Mobians and Chao have innate Chaos Energy, and have a draw to the emeralds. Rings are also naturally occuring stores of Chaos Energy, hence them granting invulnerability and healing to those who collect them, dropping when the chaos energy is disrupted. Only 20 drop because the rest are either absorbed or have the energy disperse in a less organized fashion. Being with more grasp on their Chaos Energy can keep rings after being attacked (SHTH 05, Unleashed, Frontiers, etc), but it's uncommon and takes more concentration. Boosts are expulsions of chaos energy (primarily ring energy) which is most commonly used by Sonic and Shadow. There are other ways it can be used, but this is the most common.

What has this fandom brought you?

Let’s start at the beginning.

In 1991, when I was 6 years old, this commercial appeared before me while watching my Saturday morning cartoons…

This marketing style worked on me like a bee to honey.

I begged my mother for a Sega Genesis. Begged.

The character design, speed, music, and level aesthetics, far beyond anything I’d ever seen up until that point.

I did not own any gaming systems yet. The most I’d dabbled into gaming at that point in my early life was a chance to play a couple of times on my uncle’s ColecoVision.

This was on a whole other level.

There were two clear-cut giants by this time, the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive outside North America) and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Sonic had all of the attitude of Bart Simpson, and he was way cooler than Mario.

I wanted the Genesis…

And on Christmas, I actually got it. I became tethered to it.

Sonic had become the first game I was obsessed with.

I would start to draw him in my notebooks alongside the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield, and The Little Mermaid.

As soon as it premiered, I watched Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM) religiously.

In the early 90s, I had no internet access, no way to interact with other fans…my school friends were more interested in supposedly “girlier” topics…but all of that changed when I got my first home computer towards the very end of the 1990s.

I interacted with a long list of fandoms I had become invested in and shared fanart, fanfics, AMVs, you name it. I even hosted a fansite of my own on the indie web and it grew to be quite popular.

Sonic The Hedgehog was always present amidst all the media that had drawn me in.

And when this guy showed up…

It felt like the franchise grew up with me and tailor-made a character that was comprised of literally every quality I love and deeply resonate with.

Life can have its twists and turns, and a lot can happen over the years, but my love for the stories and characters that I connected with never wavered, even in times where I was less active online.

Today, all of these years later, I find myself interacting more than ever before with the people of this fandom, especially fellow Shadamy enthusiasts, and I’m eternally grateful for the positive reception I’ve gotten towards my works ♥️

This fandom has played a huge role in returning me to my natural state of drawing almost every day, revisiting my passion for writing again, and socializing with wonderful people.

I’m more than thrilled to be a part of this community and look forward to contributing more!
