Sonja Bennett
Hunger Games Fancast: Aidan Turner and Sonja Bennett as Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen
I think of my parents. The way my father never failed to bring her gifts from the woods. The way my mother’s face would light up at the sound of his boots at the door. The way she almost stopped living when he died.
~Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games
You will not blame this boy. He has done nothing. Nothing! This is fear talking; you’re looking for blame.
Ghost Wars season one, episode one: Death’s Door.
Hunger Games Fancast → Film Cast: Sonja Bennett and Paula Malcomson as Mrs. Everdeen
Slowly, my mother returned to us. She began to clean and cook and preserve some of the food I brought in for winter. [...] Prim was thrilled to have her back, but I kept watching, waiting for her to disappear on us again. I didn’t trust her. And some small gnarled place inside me hated her for her weakness, for her neglect, for the months she had put us through. Prim forgave her, but I had taken a step back from my mother, put up a wall to protect myself from needing her, and nothing was ever the same between us again.
~ Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games
I’m not a fan of the Hunger Games film adaptations, but Mrs. Everdeen was one character whose casting I rather liked (though her depiction, especially in Catching Fire, is another story entirely :P). Anyway, about a year ago I stumbled across Sonja Bennett and was stunned by how much she looked like a younger version of Paula Malcomson - at least, in my humble opinion :) - so I had to make a post setting the two of them side-by-side. (Sorry for repeats/less than ideal pics - there aren’t many to choose from for either actress!)
